Best All in One Wedding Registry Site?

Veronica, on November 19, 2015 at 9:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

My fiance and I want to have items on our registry from various smaller stores, and I'm trying to figure out which website is the best. I've looked at Zola, SimpleRegistry, MyRegistry, Newlywish, and that's about it so far.

Anyone have experiences with these sites? Any others I'm missing?

I don't know how the others work, but I have looked into Zola. It might not be immediately obvious, but if you add something from a different website to your Zola universal registry, it actually just collects the money from the guest and then gives it to you to purchase the item yourself. I think it costs a 2.7% fee (but you can opt to pay this on your guests' behalf). Because it does this, the experience for the guests is seamless (no getting directed to other sites) and there is no chance that there will be a gap in between registries updating where two people buy the same item.

To me this kind of seems cool, because: you can make an Amazon registry, and then everything will be 10% off after your date. Then you can go and take your Zola money and buy the product, now 10% off, so everyone's money goes further (and the 10% off will kind of cancel out the 2.7% fee that you paid on your guest's behalf). Or, you could edit the amount of the gift to pass the 10% savings (or, 7.3% at this point) to your guests. Also, this is nice if you will be moving at the time of your wedding and don't want to get packages to an old address just before moving.

Amazon. They have a "Universal" registry where you can add anything from any other site.

When I was looking I read that the Amazon universal registry can be a pain for guests to use because it redirects them to another site and is maybe buggy or something? Is that not the case?

Holly, I checked all of my universal links with Amazon and so far they are good. I plan to periodically check them until the wedding just to be safe.

As of right now we are registered on both Zola and Amazon..I just am not sure how guests will feel about them giving the website the money instead of the physical gift, and thought it would be easiest just to tell them to look on two different websites? It can't be that hard right? I just don't want anyone to get confused. We are also having a third registry at a physical store.

Ohhh, I didn't realize Zola was just money. Hmm..I could see how that might be weird then. I hadn't thought to look into Amazon, but I'll do that too. Thanks you guys!

Thankful registry. Everything from the design to the simplicity to the gracious tone is wonderful. One of my favorite things we've done for our wedding.

Zola has plenty of things you can purchase directly from the site and it is a wonderfully curated selection. I find it better so that your entire house isn't straight out of the pages of one stores' catalog (unless thats your thing! I have an obsession with West Elm...)

With Zola, if you add something from an outside website, you can opt for the guest to be redirected to purchase it on the outside website as well (no 2.7% fee with that option). Or in store (meaning you can add some things from Bed Bath and Beyond so guests can use the 20% coupons). The guest will just have to confirm via email that they purchased the gift offsite so that it can be marked as "fulfilled" on Zola. Also, if someone buys you a duplicate somewhere else and you haven't shipped it via Zola, you can use the money for something else or just take the cash for the gift. Less returns!!

I'm using Zola and second everything Kelsey says. I love that I can add things from other stores and the site directs them to the store's site to purchase. Guests can also have the option to have the gift sent to them, instead of you so you can still open gifts at your shower or whatever without knowing what you are getting.

If you do go with Zola, I would recommend turning off the feature that lets you know when a guest buys things. I learned the hard way and got an email that told me everything my mom bought me for the shower!

I also tested out the buy from another store option and they do send an email asking if the gift was purchased so the guest can easily say yes or no.

We used an Amazon registry. You can put anything from any site on there. You don't get automatic notifications of what has been bought, but you can check if you want to. We had no issues with bugginess.

I think the thing with Amazon's universal registry is that it directs you to the site to purchase the item and also asks you to mark it as purchased on the registry. I haven't had any issues with it and I think it's more likely user error than a problem with Amazon's site itself. The concept is a little confusing if you don't know to expect it.
