Being Your Own dj

Bailey, on May 23, 2019 at 7:45 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 10
My fiancé and I are getting married in a barn that has a PA system we have access to. It is SIGNIFICANTLY Cheaper than a DJ of course. How many of you created your own playlist for your wedding? Did you use any apps? Pros/Cons? Advice?
Thanks in Advance!

We have created our own playlist and will be using spotify and Serato Pyro (if you have an apple product). Be sure to download all of the songs you want on Spotify to your device so you are able to play anything off line. I get married in July and I started the playlist mock up last year in September....I have been modifying it ever since.

^^agree, make sure you have everything available offline in case wifi/data starts to act up.

We're skipping the DJ and playing a playlist also, but we're going to make sure we get suggestions from guests for songs with the RSVPs because our music taste is a little sporadic .I don't want to choose a bunch of songs me and/or FH love and accidentally give the guests nothing to dance to, lol.

DJ Spotify baby! Just definitely follow what the PPs have suggested and download your playlists for offline play. Also, you can create a Wedding playlist folder and have different playlists within that folder. For example, we have a cocktail hour, grand enterance, dinner, cake cutting, first dance, early evening dancing, and late night dancing playlists in the Wedding folder.

We're doing this. Make sure you have someone willing to act as an MC and a microphone. Just someone to make general announcements, like your entrance, first dance, cake cutting, etc. Whoever is starting the speeches off can announce that.

I'll be getting Spotify premium my wedding is in August. I have my playlists set up I'm just listening to them to see if they "flow".

Will you have someone pressing play on them? Was it a guest? Trying to get my own idea of how to do this as well 😂

Yes! Two of my musician friends were asking me what my plans are for music at the reception. I told them that I wanted to focus my budget more on amazing food and open bar, so my plan was to forgo a band or DJ and just use Spotify. They, knowingly aware that they would most certainly be invited, kindly offered to set up their PA equipment and hit play on the songs as needed. Or change the playlists as needed. They are also setting up microphones for speeches and will be doing a little bit on MC’ing, like for our grand entrance and making announcements and what not. I’m going to tip them a little bit for their help, of course. If you have someone already coming to your wedding that you feel wouldn’t mind helping you out, then I’d definitely talk to them ahead of time and save some money.

We're DIY-ing our music. Our venue has hook ups and a musician friend of ours has the equipment. All we needed to do is supply the Spotify playlists. Smiley laugh
