Brewedwithlove2016, on November 13, 2017 at 2:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hey everyone, I asked was to be a bridesmaid back in July and excitedly excepted. I just recently found out I am pregnant and if the due date is correct, the baby with be about 2 months old at the wedding. Has any one had such a young baby while being a bridesmaid? This is my first and I am not sure if I can make it work or not. I would love any advice. Thanks!

One of my BMs is due TWO WEEKS before the wedding. I have checked in with her if she a) still feels comfortable being a BM b) still wants to do day of things (hair, makeup) and if she c) wants me to invite her MIL to take care of the baby while she is in the ceremony. She is my FHs twin sister, so she has assured me she is all in and will use the family on hand to ease things.

my advice is be honest with your friend what you feel you can handle.

Personally I wouldn't suggest it but it is totally your call and what you feel comfortable with! If you plan on breastfeeding, that's gonna be hard to be in the wedding.

However, at two months all they do it sleep, eat, and poop. So if you babywear majority of the day and nurse (have Dad around for changes and to to take off your hands when you're busy), you might be ok! I just wouldn't suggest it because you'll be either pregnant or a super new Mom when the bridal shower and bachelorette party happen. A first baby is so special and I would personally choose to focus on just my family in the first two months.

    But really it's your call!

And if you choose to be in the wedding that doesn't make you a bad mom!!!! Whatever choice you make is the right one!!

Just be flexible. I've known some women to go 2 weeks late and have a C-section. Forcing yourself to participate might not be possible.

4 weeks after a natural birth my sister had 2 skin cancer removals scheduled. One was problematic and she had to have a plastic surgeon close it up. Within a week of the surgical procedures she came down with mastitis, in both breasts. When her baby was 2 months old she was home wearing 2 ice packs and 2 hot pads and on heavy duty meds.

One of my BM's had a 2 month old at my wedding. Her sister traveled to NY from Philly with her and her husband to help out. She was breastfeeding so during our pictures she had to disappear a few times to feed the baby. Her sister kinda followed us around to hold him in between feedings and then watch him at the hotel during the reception. They ended up leaving about an hour before it ended. It's complicated but it's definitely do-able!

Congrats! I haven't been a BM with a baby but I am a mom. At newborn is a big adjustment period. The lack of sleep and feeling like all you do is change diapers and feed is tough. Being is the wedding is doable tho. If you plan on bf make sure you stick to the babies feeding schedule bc you will get engorged if you go too long. That in itself will make you miserable! Also, if you do bf and the dress doesn't allow for a nursing bra that will be a huge pain in the butt. I would talk to your friend and see if you can make the decision closer to the wedding date.

One of my BMs will have a 5 month old- I've told her just do what she needs to do (and I let her choose her own dress, well actually all of my BMs did, but this was one of the reasons why) Last I heard, she's largely planning on pumping that day, but this may change. I would do whatever you feel comfortable with and remember you aren't a bad friend or a bad mom whichever you decide!

My cousin and her husband were in a wedding four weeks after having their first baby. I joined them for the day and watched the baby. She typically breatfeeds, but that day she pumped and gave me the milk to give the baby. She was one of two bridesmaids that were currently breastfeeding so they just had to take a few breaks during the day to pump. The hardest part for her was actually just figuring out what size dress to wear.

I was recently in a wedding where the MOH had a 6 week old (first baby). We planned the bachelorette early enough that she was able to come. For the wedding her parents were in town so between them and her husband the baby was taken care of. She had him there while we were getting ready and took breaks during the day to feed him and check in. The grandparents kept him during the reception and I think they left a bit early. She did not want to miss her Bffs special day and it all seemed to work out okay! It's definitely a personal decision and helps for the bride to be super flexible with expectations and the flow of the day.

Congrats!!! I was a bridesmaid in my sisters wedding two weeks after my daughter was born. I also did her hair and makeup. It helped that I had a lot of support. My sister gave me full access to the bridal suite and let me nurse and put the baby down for a nap as needed. My stepmom (brides mom) really stepped in and held the baby for me while I did her hair. My husband was in charge of the baby during the ceremony.

Talk with your bride and ask if she is ok with you bringing additional support for the baby if you plan to bring her (like your mom or someone you trust, that will not be involved in the wedding). Regardless of if you bring baby or not, be open about what kind of timeframe you will need to get ready and when you will need to leave the wedding.

I was in 2 weddings with my son as an infant. Once at 2 months, once at 9 months. The 2 month was actually okay but I wasn't able to breastfeed after my son got thrush (And spread it to me). He was quiet and my (then)husband didn't have any problems keeping him calm during the ceremony. Definitely doable!
