Beer/Wine vs. Open Bar

lilchameleon, on November 20, 2017 at 2:08 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

If you've ever attended a wedding that served craft beers and wine only as far as alcohol, was the wedding shorter? Or was it about as long as ones that had hard liquor?

I'm having beer and wine and just confused by your question. Why would the wedding be shorter? We are having our wedding at a venue that has a set reception time regardless of the alcohol we choose to serve.

I've been to a wedding with no alcohol at all and that was the shortest wedding I've ever been to. I've not noticed a difference in lengths of weddings that have a full bar vs. wine and beer only. We went to 7 weddings this year and 3 had a full bar. The other 4 were wine and beer. People seemed to be having fun at all of them! One wedding was done fairly early and a whole group of us went out afterwards but that was due to a venue restriction.

Do you mean to ask if people left earlier versus weddings with open bar? We had beer, wine, champagne, hard cider and root beer. Of the 97 people there, 4 left early, which I don't think had anything to do with our alcohol selection. Of the 3 weddings I have been to within the last 3 years, 2 were open bar and 1 was beer and wine. I left the open bar one early because I was tired.

Most people I know drink either beer or wine if that is what's offered and it hasn't made a difference in the receptions.

About half the weddings I have been to had beer and wine only. It did not affect reception length at all.

Why would the type alcohol you serve dictate the length of your reception? If anything, I would think that the reception would be less of a shit show when serving beer/wine vs. higher alcohol beverages...

We did beer (a good selection of craft and non craft options) and wine and our wedding ending until they kicked us out. We did have a signature cocktail and champagne toast included in the package. I don't think it would end early. We didn't know anyone attending our wedding that only drinks liquor, most people also enjoy wine or beer.

Nope. I have been to a couple beer/wine receptions. No one left early and they were still a great time. Only worry if it is dry or cash bars!
