Beer Preference?

Nicole, on January 20, 2020 at 2:15 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 24

Hi All,

We're having a brewery wedding and can choose 4 of the breweries beers to have on tap at the reception. We plan to have a pilsner and hefewiezen for all those that don't like craft beer. Now my question is what would you prefer at a wedding an IPA or a dark beer? Our third beer will be something seasonal, and we're trying to see if dark or IPA would be more preferred given those options.

Thanks in advance!

I agree, seeing what the seasonal will be should dictate the other choice. Personally, I'm not an IPA fan but I know I'm one of the few people on the planet that feel that way!

I'm not a beer drinker at all, but around where I live I believe most people would prefer IPA over dark beer. My ex's dad loved dark beer, but said it's a "very acquired taste" lol

I love a dark beer but I think an IPA would be more of a crowd pleaser. Dark beer is pretty heavy and would weigh me down on the dance floor. Also, if you’re having a September wedding it might be too hot out to really enjoy it.

I agree with the person who said see what the seasonal is! I’m guessing the seasonal would be something pumpkin or fall spiced (I creeped your wedding date lol). If that were the case, I’d go with an IPA since a lot of darker beers have some sort of spice or rich coffee/chocolate flavor. That way you’d have a light, a wheat, something flavored/spiced, and an IPA.

I’m getting married in a brewery too! Very excited 🍻 cheers to you and your FH!

It would depend on what the seasonal beer is, depending on what that one is. I'm not a fan of IPA's but I know a lot of people like them. I would base the decision off what the seasonal beer is.

I don't like hops, therefore dislike most beers (except for goses) but all the "beer people" I know like a good IPA. I feel like IPAs are more popular than dark beers. I also tend to think of dark beers as being more "cold weather" beers (so like late fall, winter not so much summer), but that might just be me. I do think whatever your seasonal beer is should influence what you decide for the fourth option though.

I'd also consider the alcohol content of your beers as well. I'd recommend lower ABV beers as opposed to something really strong, or at least having one or two "session" type beers available for people to switch between. Chances are people are going to have a drink in their hand most of the night (assuming a beer crowd, as you are having a brewery wedding) so having an option that will allow guests to pace themselves would be good.

IPA! I only know a handful of people who love dark beer, but everyone else I know loves IPAs!

It's interesting because I always thought they were an either or beer but it's good to see a good majority in your area is IPA thank you!

Yea i think whatever the seasonal is will heavily influence what we decide. And the ABV is a good point. I love a good IPA but even I can't drink one all night long...
