I don't think so. We were just discussing this and the FH wants to do a keg of something local. It'll probably be a lager (no ipa's or stouts) and we'll spend a couple of weeks finding the right one to go with our menu. Since our theme is so wrapped around our city it'll make a lot of sense.

A keg like guest will serve themselves keg? Or a bartender will pour from the keg to serve guests? I think there is a big difference. As long as it's being served by a bartender I think it's fine. We were looking into purchasing a keg because our venue only serves bud light and a local beer that we don't really love. With the venue we decided it was best for us to bring in cans that way we have a variety and the venue can chill them properly where they only have the system for one quarter keg.

As long as it's free you are all good!

Also just make your keg can rest before serving. My CC told me if you tap it right after transporting it it will be all head.

Also free wine is a great idea. Boxed wine or large wine (1.5 L) bottles are a great way to save money. Also ask about case discounts!

I don't think so, maybe if you want more variety do half a keg of one type of beer and half a keg of another? We were going to do kegs but our venue informed us that if we do cases of cans then we will only have to pay for what we use.

I think it's fine! We're going to have a keg of local beer at our wedding (plus wine and liquor served by a couple of bartenders).

The biggest downsides are that you won't have as large a variety and you could potentially waste a lot vs. if you do bottles you can take them home. As long as a bartender is serving it there is no issue.

We’re going to do a keg for ours! We’ll probably have 2 kegs (most likely quarter kegs depending on guet count. One would be an IPA and the other some sort of lager. A bartender will be serving it along with wine and 2 signature drinks.

I definitely wouldn't say that a keg is tacky, I definitely prefer kegged beer over bottles and cans. However, you have to think about transporting the keg, renting the tap, and then having someone return the keg to the distributor after the wedding. My biggest concern with this was also having somewhere to put it.

I would recommend just getting bottles. Like PP said, you can save what ever doesn't get drank. Less waste, less hassle.

I don't think it's tacky. The only reason we're going bottled is that a friend (my moh) said they had so much leftover in the keg at her wedding. and had to either drink quick or return it. At least bottles you can keep for another day if you have left overs. If you're sure everyone will drink that type of beer, I say go for it.

Kegs or bottles are both fine but I’d recommend having more than 1 type of beer. Bottles I find to be easier for variety and leftovers — you can get multiple smaller kegs but there’s more potential for waste if they don’t get finished (leftover bottles you can keep)

I think it depends on your crowd. I wouldn't think it would matter either way.

My FILs did a keg when they were married and it was a huge hit. They still tell stories about it.

We're doing 2 kegs with beer made by a friend, some domestics in bottles, wine, and 2 signature drinks in glass dispensers. A lot of people are against it, but it's all self serve. We're hiring 2 people to oversee things (refresh ice, cups, signature drinks, etc), but our crowd would prefer self serve. I say you know your crowd, but in general keg beer is changing to being less "frat party" and more "I know beer & it obviously tastes better this way" lol you do you!
