Beer and Wine with Covid

Ashley, on August 20, 2020 at 1:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
We planned on providing open bar with just beer and wine. Is it appropriate to ask on the invites or put a poll with a few options on beer choice so we know what to buy??

Also for the wine, with Covid, everything has to be single serve. How would you go about that with the wine? Those little bottles are going to be pricey!
Suggestions please!
Thank you!

I wouldn't include it in your invitation. You can probably get a good idea of alcohol preferences via word of mouth.

Can your bartender pre-pour disposable glasses of wine to hand out?

Just choose a popular regular / light beer from your are and a red / white wine

Do you know the majority of your guests? I know mine are mostly beer drinkers 1st, women mostly wine drinkers

There are canned wines that are more reasonable than the cute individual serving mini wine bottles. Again, now your audience and when you run out you run out!

We had bottles of wine out for people to take to their table so people wouldn't be pouring out of the same bottle

If you're buying the alcohol yourself (from a liquor store), you should be able to return anything you don't open. Maybe just have a nice variety on hand and return what is not used. Also, I'm very surprised that you need to use single-serve wine, but you may be able to buy it in bulk at a discount. Or maybe the wine drinkers each get a full bottle to drink from all night? Then they have to switch to beer or non-alcoholic drinks if they finish the bottle. But I guess this idea only works if you know who would want a full bottle, otherwise you'd have to buy a bottle for each guest and then return what wasn't used...it really sucks to be in this situation! Hope someone has better suggestions than me! Haha.

I wouldn’t poll your guests. I would just buy whatever type of beer & wine you want, and buy the amount based on what you know about your guests drinking habits.

Have your bartenders poor the wine into disposable glasses.

What about adding a hard sparkling water (Truly/White Claw) to the mix? It is priced much closer to beer than mini wine bottles, and some people who would have otherwise drank wine will switch.

Are you having a bar tender or self serve? If you are doing self serve you can put hand sanitizer in front of the wine bottles so guest can sanitize before touching the bottles.

If you have someone able to serve the drinks there then you don't have to worry about single serve wine

We thought about putting a few bottles on each table with a bottle opener. Whoever want in can.. but I like the idea above with a self serve station and hand sanitzer st the ready

Ask them via word of mouth or text conversation with your vips but don't include it on your invitation.

For single serve wine, go with cans or mini bottles available at the local beverage warehouse. Assuming you're providing your own.
