Beach wedding brides - what's your plan B?

Aimee, on July 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

With the arrival of Hurricane Arthur in the Outer Banks (where my wedding will be) it has me thinking about finalizing my plan b in case of rain. Our ceremony location is on the beach outside of our rental house, so it's not like it's a venue that has indoor and outdoor locations. So, beach brides (past or present!), what is/was your plan b?

I am also planning a beach wedding in South Carolina. We rented a beach house for the week, so if it rains, we will have the ceremony at the house.

Luckily it didn't rain, although it looked like it was going to (and it rained late that night/early the next morning). We planned on moving it inside our venue building.

Where are you having your reception? Can that be your plan B?

Mine is next weekend in surfside beach, sc. It's on the beach and the reception is at the holiday inn, we could do it inside there if we had to.

Always pick a location that has an inclement weather back up space. It might not be a pretty as a gorgeous beach, but at least you know you have a plan b if it rains. Also research your destination's rainy season, and try to avoid that time of year if you do not have a plan b

Fingers crossed that it won't rain...but my reception is at a restaurant that overlooks the water so our plan B will be having the ceremony there as well :/

I'm thinking I'll have to go your route, Casey. We're also having a restaurant reception so I guess I could have the ceremony there (ours looks over the water, too!)

I am getting married on the beach in Florida and the reception is under a pavilion on the beach so if GOD FORBID it should rain the ceremony would be under the pavilion as well.

We got married last week on a beach in the Outer Banks. Our plan A was to have the ceremony on the beach and the reception on the deck of our rental house. Plan B was to have both in the great room of the house. The weather forecast was for rain on our wedding day and we had to decide where to set up tables early in the day, so we did move the reception inside. We had our marriage ceremony on the beach because the rain never actually materialized.

Our reception was outside and oceanfront so our plan B was tents.

I tell all of my couples to have a plan B. It can be where they are staying or where they are eating.

One eloping couple had no back-up, so I took them to a nearby restaurant that knows me. We did the ceremony on the covered deck there.

It is VIP to have a rain backup already planned. You do not want that stress last minute!

We are in Savannah and experience similar weather here. Tents are not a fool proof option. strong winds will send them rolling as well and then what will you do? Speak with your venue and have a plan of action to move inside .If your beach house is large enough this is a great plan B as you can light candles, decorate and make it a beautiful and intimate ceremony. Just make sure your reception space gives the OK to have your ceremony there, if needed. We have seen unfortunate incidents where restaurants have turned brides away in the rain because they were full and would not allow the ceremony because it would take place before the reception time allotted. We are happy to set up inside just as we would have outside and some venues are awesome and understanding , like the restaurant in the pictures below! We brought the chairs and flowers indoors and it was still very pretty Smiley smile
