Beach theme not at the beach?

Hey guys, so FH and I originally wanted to have a small, destination beach wedding but of course we ended up expanding our guest list, wanting to be closer to home (for easier access, $, and because my grandpa can’t travel) so now we’re getting married in a lovely hotel ballroom with 100 people.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very glad we made the decisions we did since a small beach wedding wasn’t realistic for us and I know the wedding we are having will make us even happier, but my whole life I have always imagined getting married on the beach and even had seashell centerpieces picked out, so it’s a little disappointing to have to change all this when it’s what I’ve been imagining for years.

Do you guys think it would be tacky to still have a beach theme to our wedding even though it’s not near the beach? Nothing too over the top, just like if we were to stick with turquoise/beige as our color scheme, use the seashell centerpieces I wanted, and maybe a few other beachy-type things? Is that weird?

Not at all! I'm having a beach theme wedding, and we're in a lake side lodge in Florida. (Destination wedding) And on the other hand, my ex sister-in-law is having a beach themed wedding at home here in Pittsburgh. So go with your theme! It's your and your FH's day, not everyone elses! 😘

I say do whatever makes you happy! And especially if you keep it low key like you said, I think it could still be very classy

I feel like it is your wedding and you can/should do what you like. I love the color scheme you have chosen. Is the hotel near any water? Not that it has to be, but if it was maybe you could do a few photos near the water. I wanted my wedding on a beach too, but we are getting married in October so that won't work. In order for it to happen, we would have had to rush the wedding this year or hold off until next year. We didn't want to do either so, I told FH maybe a beach ceremony at as a vow renewal will be good.

Done right, it can look beautiful! My nephew and his wife had their wedding in a ballroom and it was an “aquarium” concept. She’s a marine biologist. She made centerpieces in a tall vase with shells, sand, lights, etc. and they looked gorgeous. She also had a shark cake topper.

I know someone who had a beach themed wedding also in a hotel ballroom nowhere near the beach. They just like the beach. Do it!

Not my style, but I say do it! I think it definitely needs to be done right because its one of those themes that can be similar to a child's birthday party with the wrong decor. Keeping things very neutral and light will help but I think seashells and lights could look really pretty together.

It’s not near the water at all unfortunately lol. We’re having it about 15 mins from my house so that my grandpa can be there since he can’t travel very far, and we live in central New Jersey. We were actually talking about a vow renewal on the beach too! We went to Maui together a few years ago (before we were engaged) and said hypothetically if we were to ever get married, we wanted it to be on the beach in Maui. Clearly that is not what’s happening at all haha, but we are hoping to take a 1 year anniversary trip there to renew our vows

That is awesome! You will get the best of both worlds. This time around you will have your grandpa there to enjoy the celebration and then when you guys are ready you can do a ceremony on the water as you planned. It will all work out and be beautiful.

Go for it! Especially since you are having a summer wedding. I think it would be a bit odd if you did a beach themed wedding in December, but you aren't doing that.

No that's not wierd AT all!!!! It's YOUR wedding and you can seriously do whatever you like in it! I'm sorry you can't have your real beach wedding. But thank you for the great idea of sea shell centerpieces, you mind?!?! Lol. I'm having a 50 person beach wedding next year and totally new at this. And we are doing everything ourselves(well as much as we can). Good luck! Please don't make the mistake of Not doing what you two want it's Your day, and only about what you two want to feel good and happy!

No not at all please do it haha. These were my inspirations for the centerpieces! What I really want to do is a variation of the ones with the blue candles... I’d like to fill the glass about halfway with shells and sand, and then rest the candles in that

My SIL had a beach theme wedding and it was so much. I think the cuter the decorations the more fun it is because people say oooh look at that detail and that detail!!
