Beach sound system?

Leslie, on April 10, 2017 at 1:36 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Has anyone had experience with using a sound system on the beach? It would have to be wireless, just for playing a few songs during the ceremony and we aren't having a DJ. My rental vendor has a "battery powered speaker with Bluetooth" I am thinking of using but I'm worried about sound quality.

This sounds very tricky and like it would require specialist knowledge. If there is any way you can afford a DJ, even for just the ceremony, I think it would relieve a lot of stress to know it would be done right by an experienced pro.

I'd reconsider a DJ. Not only will people not be able to hear the music, they won't be able to hear you or the officiant!

It's a small ceremony with only 25-30 people, so I didn't see it worth it to get a DJ. But I had also assumed that it would be super easy to find something that would accommodate this- hasn't been the case.

If you have a rental company (tents, chairs, etc.) in your area, they may have a portable sound system you can rent.

Also, ask your officiant for suggestions.

I have about the same number of guests as you and getting married on the beach.

I went back and forth with the DJ thing but I have decided to hire one. I want to have the best day and best night, even if no one dances I want to get up and have fun, I want to hear my walking down the aisle song and have butterflies in my stomach in twenty- forty years from my wedding day - so yeah, im for a DJ too!

There is no problem with doing it yourself, you don't need any specialist knowledge. You don't even need Bluetooth, just a normal 1/8" cable that attaches a phone to a speaker. msg me if you need help, it's not hard at all.

There are lots of battery powered gizmos that do this job now, as a quick google search or trip to Best Buy will show. Many of them cost less than a typical DJ upcharge for ceremony! For example:

Your officiant is going to need sound as well. I think the option that your rental person suggested might be fine, but you want to check it out beforehand and make sure that you have someone to cur music for you.

How will your guests hear the ceremony? The last wedding I went to that was outside, nobody could hear a single word that was being said. That was in the middle of nowhere with no wind or waves crashing in the background. Please make sure that you have a sound system that will project over the background noise.

Thank you all! I'm looking at the option of a higher quality speaker and also pricing some DJs now

You may also consider a live musician, but that doesn't solve the no microphone issue.

What did you ever figure out? I am getting married in a few months and am having the same issue. We are having a beach wedding, very small, and to use the company we’re using a wireless speaker just to play a song to walk down the isle to will be $125. I don’t want to pay that for 1 song..any help would be greatly appreciated!!
