Beach Ceremony/Reception in New England?!

Kate, on August 22, 2016 at 12:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

I'm looking for ideas for a beach wedding in New England. My budget is tight and I'm looking to hire a caterer myself and other outside vendors.

If anyone has ideas for a sandy/beach ceremony and a tent that is supplied or if we can set up ourselves and also allows outside vendors, that would be amazing!

Try searching in the vendors tab. The first step is probably to find out what the restrictions are on the beach in your area. I would also caution you to have a backup plan since summer weather in New England can be extremely unpredictable.

I've looked into Galilee Beach Club in RI (doesn't supply outside catering and has specific months you can't host) and Rotunda Ballroom in RI (way more flexibl) and those are my first choices. I found a New Hampshire one that I could rent for the entire weekend called Lake Shore Village Resort which would be perfect all together but it's too expensive (13.5k without any vendors included).

I tried searching the vendors on this site but they don't have a filter for Beach or Oceanfront so it is hard to find the venues I like (or maybe I just don't see the option).

How tight is the budget? I don't know of specific venues because I'm not having a beach wedding, but I'd look into Maine or Connecticut. Avoid anything around Boston if budget is an issue. There are several beautiful seaside venues in Maine atop cliffs and bluffs where you have the surf below you. There are some directly on the beach too, if that's your thing (I personally prefer the cliffs).

    Sarah pretty much nailed it.

Beach, inexpensive, in season...... not words that usually go together. Plus August can be brutally hot or raining; either needs plan B. Plus you're talking two years away, which means pricing will go up.

I think it might be a good idea to look at another option, frankly.

I looked into venues on the Cape but a LOT we're very expensive and didn't allow outside catering.

I am open to anywhere in the New England area. Me and my fiance's family is from New Hampshire but I'm open to other states as well.

In a perfect world I want a beach I can host my ceremony at and have beach games and a reception room to host my reception. My budget for ceremony/reception is anything under 7k to rent (because I'll be using outside vendors which will add to my wedding budget in the end). But if there's a vendor that includes a reception room and tables/dance floor that is even better.

Well worst comes to worst I can use the Rotunda Ballroom which is affordable and getting married on a beach but I was just seeing if anyone had any other experiences elsewhere. Galilee was also another option I have too which does beach weddings. So I know they are out there, just hard to find Smiley smile

I think lighthouse point park in CT is pretty adorable and allows outside caterers

I am getting married at lighthouse point park in CT. It's right on the beach, and they have a building with a carousel in it that they've designed for weddings. The venue is $**** to rent, but you can bring in everything yourself (caterer, liquor, any vendors you choose).

I've also been told because it's a historic site and the venue fee goes to the upkeep and restoration of the carousel and building, that you can use it as a tax write off. Still waiting to figure that out, but will be awesome if it's true.

Since most beaches are public in New England, you may have to ask some people to move to have your ceremony on a beach, even if you're able to reserve it. I have some friends getting married on the public beach on Plum Island (Newburyport MA), and then having their reception in the Plum Island Taxpayer Association Hall (info here:

http://www.plumislandtaxpayers.org/PITA/Rent_PITA_Hall.html ). When I googled PITA hall I saw some blogs about inexpensive weddings there.

We had a day after brunch at Salisbury Beach State Park. They have a nice pavilion there you can rent for under $200 (on the river side, not right on the ocean), but then you have to get a liquor license and pay for a police detail to have alcohol, so those costs made it more expensive than PITA hall.

Well yeah, of course you won't find anything on the Cape in your budget. The Cape is a resort destination and is super expensive in season. Don't even think about Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket either. That goes without saying. Marblehead and Salem are likely out too. Pretty much, most of Massachusetts is out. Try Maine, Connecticut, or New Hampshire.

Have you thought about renting an AirBnB beach house, and hosting your wedding there? You could probably rent a good size house/mansion for 7K for a few days.

I've looked into renting an Airbnb or a vacation home but many places don't let you host weddings and if they do, they only allow small intimate weddings.

Mass is out of luck since it is expensive. Rhode Island seems to be relatively inexpensive, and I haven't found many beaches in NH that allow outside catering besides the 13k one I found. But I haven't tried looking in CT, so perhaps I will research in that area next.

I think you may have to scrap the outside catering. Is there any reason your dead set on that?

I found some reasonable at Cape but they were per person prices and included food and bar.

We're getting married on Hampton Beach in NH. It costs around 5-8k depending on the season (on or off).

I've found that venues that include their own catering are super pricey and I wouldn't be able to afford it with my budget. I was just planning to hire some food trucks that can buffet style my wedding reception since it would be way cheaper than hiring a full on caterer for a wedding.

I'm already planning on having 2-3 trucks to supply dinner to my guests Smiley smile I haven't found a caterer that is cheaper than having food trucks, but if there is one I would definitely be interested in researching them!
