bbq Menus

Amanda, on February 12, 2020 at 12:56 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
We’re getting married in the summer & both love some BBQ foods; however, I’m struggling to come up with ideas that won’t break the bank & that would be easy to make as we’re doing our own food. My fiancé & I both love wings (I swear he loves them more than me🤣) & I was wondering what ya’ll thought about that. Please help!

I definitely understand the desire to do this, but I really recommend against self-catering. You're going to be working your own wedding (and likely asking for help from friends/family members). In addition to that, there are a lot of health concerns when it comes to making, storing, transporting, and serving that much food. I've been in the wedding industry long enough to here some unfortunate horror stories about illnesses at self-catered weddings.

Truly, Mexican, Italian, and BBQ food are the most cost-effective food types to get catered out there--you can definitely do it without breaking the bank. I highly recommend you look into local options.

I understand where you're coming from, but we've self-catered many weddings within our family & close friends. I really don't want to spend thousands of dollars on catering with a limited menu. We're just looking for menus ideas for a BBQ cuisine. Thank you!

I’m getting BBQ food catered at our wedding! They’re doing things like Mac and cheese, turkey burger slider type things, chicken, wings and ribs in bbq sauce we’re for sure options! Baked potatoes, salads and things like that were all options!
I would suggest looking at catering websites and seeing what kind of food they offer and take some ideas from that that you could do yourself! Hope this helps you. Good luck! Smiley laugh

I agree with this idea. Have barbecue food catered from a local restaurant that does amazing barbecue. I was thinking about doing the same thing here because we have an amazing barbecue spot called dinosaurs and I just love their pulled pork but that a great idea and less stress

Don't let people discourage you from doing things for your wedding. We are DIYing everything except the attire and the rings. That includes the food. It is not an unusual thing in my friend and family group. We are doing pulled pork, summer slaw, cheesy potatoes, salad, fruit, and cornbread for our BBQ buffet. Good luck!

What about a bbq brisket? some pulled pork/chicken. I LOVE WINGS so i second that idea lol

for side dishes maybe like some type of coleslaw or potato/macaroni salad. mashed potatoes - corn on the cob.

Can you cater? BBQ can easily be done for $10 per person.

We are self catering BBQ aswell. This is a very common practice in our family. We are renting a large BBQ and we are grilling up chicken thighs and pork loins. We are having select family members bring sides such as BLT pasta salad, green salad, potato salad and baked beans. If you have a sams club where ever you live they have bulk boxes of chicken thighs (55 pounds for about $102)

Yes, there are options but you're still looking at $3,000 + for $10 a person. We are self-catering.

I wonder how much the brisket would be. I'll definitely have to price it out!

Thank you! It is a little frustrating when I clearly stated that we were self-catering.. Thank you for the words of encouragement & the menu ideas! That really helps!

I am having a bbq buffet! Pulled pork or smoked chicken for entrees and then we'll have a variety of sides: rolls, green beans, baked beans, and mac & cheese. It'll be a summer garden wedding with a reception on the patio. Perfect southern dinner!

Wings— yes! We did wings for one of our after party items and they were a hit. We also did an assortment of sliders (cheeseburgers, pulled pork, etc), quesadillas, corn dogs, fries, onion rings and a cheese and charcuterie platter.

Mac and cheese. You can even include some bacon bits on the side for people to sprinkle on (our rehearsal/welcome dinner catering did this for our Mac n cheese dish!).
Mashed potatoes — I’ve seen people do a self-serve mashed potato bar.
Cornbread, Coleslaw, riblets, roasted corn or elote (Mexican grilled corn).

Contact the bbq caterers/restaurants in your area for menus and price quotes. BBQ in general is cheaper than a regular wedding caterer so the sky is the limit based on your budget.
