Bbq dinner?

Ami, on August 26, 2018 at 10:07 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
So my wedding colors are gold and ivory incorporating pearls and mirrors, so my ideas are a classy elegant look.my fiance hasn't had much say and he's saying he wants to have a say and he picked out the dinner. BBQ pork buffet style. I really do love bbqs. But would it fit my venue? I don't want to be a bridezilla and shoot down the ONE thing he wants for our wedding. Could it work? Or should I change the idea to classy rustic (which I'm not a fan of) to make him happy?

BBQ dinner doesn't sound like it would match your style. Maybe that for the rehearsal dinner?

It's his wedding too and it doesn't sound like he is asking for much. I dont see why it would not work. Food is food.

A lot of people might dislike the idea of eating messy BBQ in formal attire. There are plenty of non-messy options though. Sliced brisket and smoked chicken breast come to mind.

Also, boneless ribs, fresh corn niblets cut off the cob just before cooking so they taste fresh ( way better than frozen, canned) , and linguica or other sausages, can be eaten neatly , rather than anything off the bone. Serve in big ceramic ramekins or metal ovenware, on a charger plate. This way any sauces do not go over the edge onto clothes. And provide alligator clips on ribbons so cloth napkins become bibs, like in a lobster restaurant. Very cheap to do clips. Put out 2 cloth napkins per place, one as big, one as lap/ mouth wiping napkin. Nice restaurants serve lobster and crab this way, with no nasty plastic bibs. You may want to reconsider buffet service, barbecue hard to carry. For a formal wedding, 2 wait staff with a cart can serve each person right at the table, as with a chef's cart or pastry cart. Not preplated, small buffet where each person says, I would like........ Each wait staff can ask and serve a 10 person table in about 4 minutes, because no waiting for people to move up in line, look around, then choose. Faster. And venue can tell you, two or 3 carts needed to serve the room. Barbecue served at a central buffet, with people walking around with plates, is always prone to disasters, and people carry plates so drapes of fabric and jacket fronts get messed up. So compromise, he can have his barbecue foods, if he will agree to roving cart service suitable for a more elegant style wedding.

Honestly my wedding sounds just like your wedding with rose gold and ivory and pearls and we’re having a BBQ dinner just because the food sounded so much better than our other options AND we would get more food options. So classy wedding with a BBQ dinner!

This. You can keep it on the classier side of bbq if thats a thing, he gets his food you get the look. Good compromise. Fh wants our recessional song to be startwars rebel victory which to me is ridiculous but its the one thing he asked for so im not saying no.

Star Wars recessional sounds like something my FH would ask for. Good to know he’s not the only one.

I think the cart serving idea idea is a good one. Classy but he can still have his bbq. We’re doing bbq at our wedding as well.

It is your wedding and the two of you need to determine what you both want. Personally based upon how you are describing your wedding it sounds formal so I would not like to serve BBQ. I wold suggest having BBQ for rehearsal and having less messy foods for the wedding.

Lol my look was also more elegant and FH finally gave input and wanted BBQ. We're just going with it. Our venue is on the casual rustic side (pic included), but we will be having eggplant satin tablecloths, shimmery silver chair sashes, mercury glass vases with baby's breath, candles, and sprinklings of birch and white pumpkins.
He really wanted BBQ, and it is delicious...so we figured out some "classier" meat options from within that. Dry rub rib tips and roasted chicken pieces will go better with our style than pulled pork. Maybe you could modify your BBQ selections to do something similar?

Whoops pic not included apparently. They've also added twinkle lights around the exposed beams.

I’d would be extremely excited to have bbq at any style wedding because I eat chicken and fish and rice/pasta every other day of the year. As long as I’m not biting into an ear of corn or a rack of ribs, BBQ in and of itself to me is not considered a messy meal. Meat, slaw, potatoes, salad, corn bread...messy as any other meal I know. My FH said his only wants for our wedding is some good craft beers and bbq for dinner. I can support that without it ruining the vision we have. Happy eating!!! Your guests won’t mind AT ALL! Smiley smile

We are having a formal wedding with red gold and ivory, but bbq was the only thing my fiance asked for so that is what he is getting. What is your venue like? Our venue is a mountain lodge so I think it will still fit. And the caterers can class it up lol

This is the entry way and there is a stone fire place. It has a very elegant homey feel to it

Lol this may be biased bc I'm from Texas, but bbq can be classy as hell 🤣
We are having bbq and our venue is a mansion type venue. Give it to him, no need to stress 😀

From this picture, I would say BBQ would fit the venue quite fine, Ami!! As long as your guests know that they might be getting a little messy at the reception, then I think you should be good! Besides, you'l have all those mirrors to make sure that nothing is in anyone's teeth! Smiley laugh
