BBQ cookout!

Weddingbliss, on February 12, 2014 at 8:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

So I'm planning on doing a huge BBQ cookout for my reception since it's fourth of july weekend! We are having steak, chicken ribs, fish, mac and cheese, scalloped potatoes, spinach dip, corn bread, bbq beans, veggies, fruit, and salad. Our reception isn't super fancy, it's at our families clubhouse that opens out to the forest. It's very country rustic and comfy just how I like it. My question is as guest would you be ok with a cookout and a casual reception? I see all these weddings that are super fancy and I wonder!

Helllll yeah! I would love it. My wedding is going to be fancier than I planned, but that's because we really didn't have a "family" location for it. That sounds awesome though

@KirstenMichelle Really? ok I feel better, I was worried people were going to think it wasn't fancy enough. I just thought doing a cookout for 4th of july weekend made sense! thanks!

I think this sounds awesome! Just make sure your guests know the type of reception. I would be embarrassed as a guest if I showed up in a cocktail dress and heels when I should have rocked a summer dress & dressy sandals.

@ashley Yeah everyone knows its a laid back theme! We wanted our guest to feel like they still got to have a 4th bbq cookout since they are coming to the wedding. My guest list is small only 40 people depending on how many actually show up that number could be smaller!

That really is what I wanted for mine in the first place, but my mom and sister were against it, so I sort of changed my mind, but it sounds perfect

@Kirsten Thanks! I feel you on the mom and sister thing! My sister is total opposite of me and is going to have a huge over the top wedding, but that's her style lol. I'm more laid back that's why I chose this although my mom and sister would have wanted me to have something more lavish it's just not who I am!

Kudos to you for not just having burgers and hot dogs and calling it a cook out. I don't like either, so I have to pick the lesser of two evils (hot dog, ick) and hate it. I would tear up some steak or chicken though for sure! It will be fun!

@Gamecox Lol thanks, yeah my hubby loves steak and his family are meat eaters so we decided on a real cookout and not burgers or hotdogs because thats just not enough for a wedding in my opinion even if it is casual! The chicken and fish was my decison, I'm not big on red meat so I thought it was a good choice!
