Bathrooms for the reception

K-G, on September 21, 2014 at 11:54 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

So I'm having my wedding and reception at my brother-in-law's backyard. We discussed the bathroom situation and I don't know if it would be considered rude/tacky to rent portable bathrooms. Some can be nice, right? My brother-in-law only has one bathroom and we will not be having more than 75 people. Has anyone else done this for an outdoor wedding?

I personally don't have the same situation but I have seen nicer versions before! I think people would probably prefer the real restroom but honestly 75 people is a lot for one bathroom. I'm sure they would appreciate another option Smiley smile

Before we were a couple, we were in the BP of mutual friends. There ceremony was in the backyard of one of their relatives. Thankfully, they had port-o-potties for their 100 guests. I emailed my friend and she sent me the website of what they had:

I don't know how much they cost, but I for one was eternally grateful.

If your bro only has one bathroom, you should def order some nice port a potties so no one uses his at all. What if his clogs/breaks? If he has a septic system, what if it floods? (and who pays for the repairs?) What if someone is sick? It could be a disaster if you don't have any alternatives.

My venue is mostly outside and they are providing a port-o-potty for our guests. There is a bathroom inside, but there will be around 75 guests so the port-o-potty is just another option. I didn't want one, but I think it's a good idea. They are on septic so they need an alternative option to cut down on the amount of flushes.

Portable bathrooms seem to be a necessity if you're having a backyard wedding. The thought used to make me cringe, but after seeing the pics that Bunnylove just posted, I have to say, I am shocked. I always thought of porta potties as those green booths on construction sites. Wow, have things changed! The newer ones wouldn't bother me at all.

A couple of things to consider...there was a bride who attended a back yard wedding a week or two ago, and she gave some good advice on this subject. There were 150 guests, and the couple provided two portable bathrooms. She spent 25 minutes waiting on a bathroom line and completely missed the appetizers. Also, some of the older guests had some trouble getting into the units because they had walkers and it was just too awkward for them. So, make sure you get enough to prevent lines, and make sure they are easily accessible to the senior citizens.

Just out of curiosity -- what do those really nice ones cost to rent? I have no idea at all.

I looked into the portable toilet trailers and they started at $3K so, given that's close to our entire budget, we downgraded. But, they will be clean, we'll add lights inside and we'll have an outside wash station. We also have two bathrooms in the house and the guys can go behind the shed, which they do anyway Smiley winking Two handicapped porta potties (without urinals) and the portable sink will cost us about $300 including delivery fees.

Eta. We're having about 80 people and most of them will be there the night before for our welcome dinner too.

I don't think it is tacky at all. I actually think it is very necessary. I'm having a backyard wedding and I am renting an upgraded portable trailer. It comes with 3 bathrooms and I am paying $700 for it. Here is the website for the company I am using just to give you an idea.

$3,000? Wow. Well, kudos to you Karen for renting the handicapped approved units.

@centerpiece flowers, one of the disadvantages of living out in the country is that anything "specialized" costs a lot more just because there isn't competition. The benefits is that everything else is cheap. Our tent for 80, including lights, dance floor, tables, chairs for both tent and ceremony, setup several days early so we can use for welcome dinner too and an extra 15x15 tent for the bar is coming in at under $1000 and he's custom building an entrance way. So our guests will be spoiled except when they need to pee Smiley smile

Just had my wedding and rented a luxury trailer, well worth the money! Had 4 private stalls with a dual vanity sink for the women and 1 stall, 2 urinals and a single vanity sink for the men. They were super clean, no smell and came fully stocked. Paid around $1100

This was in Phoenix from http://www.azrestroomrentals.com

We are renting portable toilets. Not the fancy ones. I was quoted $2,500 from a company. I just don't want it to look tacky. I saw this on Pinterest. I really like the idea!
