Bartending - worth spending the extra $ on cups/napkins?

Maggie, on February 7, 2020 at 1:03 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hey Yall! I have been pricing out bartenders and most quotes I've gotten for 5 hours of service, 2 bartenders, setup/clean up, and basic bar tools to serve beer/wine is around $500-$600.... To have them provide cups, napkins, mixers, straws, ice, and serve cocktails (and/or signature drinks) is like an additional $500... Both do NOT include the alcohol. So, my question is if I should spend the additional $500 for the extras OR can I save a lot of money buying all of those things myself?! This seems ridiculous in my opinion, but maybe there is rational to it! We will have about 150-175 people at our wedding.

You can definitely buy the necessities cheaper than $500.

I do think that you could get those things cheaper than $500, but I think it really depends on if you want your bartenders to serve cocktails/signature drinks or not since that's included in the $500.

As a bartender/bar manager and someone who has worked events, I would would just use all that they provide. They honestly are not making much profit off those items. Plus the bartenders 2ill know they have all they need!

I think this really depends on how much work you want to have to do on your own and whether you’re ok with not serving a signature drink or liquor. For us, paying vendors extra to take care of more things that meant us not having to worry about it was 100% worth it, but that’s not true for everyone.

I'm in kind of the same boat. My bartender lied to my FH and I about having her license so we're in search of a new one (our venue requires a licensed bartender since we did not go with them for our bar services). I've been looking on Thumbtack and they have had a good number of bartenders in my area that I found cheap. So maybe check there if you are looking for something cheaper.

I do agree with the PP. You can 100% get the supplies cheaper on your own. My FH and I bought a set 500 cups off of amazon for $33 plus shipping, even though we aren't going to go through 500 cups at the wedding. We are having a birthday party for my FH's dad a few weeks after the wedding and will use the remaining there.

These are the ones we got

We got 2 packs of them. Our bar is a full open bar so we aren't worried about the size of them b/c our guests can go back to the bar as many times as they want.
