Bartender

Briann, on August 5, 2019 at 4:33 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
Hello all, we are looking at hiring a bartending service. I have questions to ask but I wanted to see if anyone had anymore to add to make sure we cover our bases. Here are the questions.
1. What is the tipping protocol?2. What do you guys do for too intoxicated guest?3. What is the uniform for the bartender?4. How much alcohol is needed and who will be providing alcohol?5. Who is setting up and tearing down the bar? How much time is needed?6. Are any tables and linens needed?7. Will there be non alcoholic beverages? Like pop and water?8. What will be your arrival time?9. Is there a deposit required?10. Will ids be checked to verify whether or not someone is of age?11. What time is last call?12. How will the bar menu be displayed? 13. Is there a way to set aside specific alchohol for the bride and groom?14. When does the money need to be paid by?

I don't have many answers for you. There was a bar at our venue and we (bride & groom paid for) served beer & wine. We hired a bartender for $50, and set out a tip jar. Our caterer provided all of the non-alcoholic drinks, we had: sweet & un-sweet tea, lemonade, and water.

These are the questions I sent to the bartending company. I just want to know if anyone has any additional questions that I should ask.

    1. You can either tip your bartender or leave tip jars out for guests to tip.

    2. A bartender should know when to not serve guests if they are too intoxicated.

    3. Depends on venue. Ours wore slacks and a button down.

    4. Can't speak to this, our venue provided it.

    5. Again, venue.

    6. We had black linens and tables for the bars.

    7. Yes, pop and water and tea and coffee.

    8. Bar starts at 5:30 after ceremony but they were set up by 4:30.

    9. We paid the full cost up front.

    10. Yes, they checked IDs of younger looking guests.

    11. 10:15 last call, 10:30 last served. Wedding ended at 11:00.

    12. We had our calligraphy woman do menus.

    13. This would depend on who you hire.

    14. This would depend on who you hire.

I think those questions seem really good. Maybe ask about past experience. How big of events they've done before, how quickly they can serve, how many bartenders are needed? Get an idea of how long guests will have to wait and how well the person works under pressure. Also if applicable who provides the ice? What/how they will handle if some thing runs out?

I would ask if you have to pay for everyone including guests under the age of 21 or just guests 21+. That could make it significantly less or more expensive depending on how many underage people you have at your wedding.

The only other things I can think of to ask is if they can create a signature cocktail for you (if that's something you're interested in), and if they've worked at your venue before and have any inside info or tips.
