Bartender tip

Kay, on September 14, 2020 at 11:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I have hired a bartender for our wedding. She has been extremely difficult to work with and the only vendor I have had any issues with....waiting 2 weeks to get back to me, telling me to look at the contract rather than giving me a direct answer, forgetting that she promised us free ice & a cooler. I'm honestly worried she's going to forget items.

BUT I refuse to tip poorly but what is a normal amount for tipping a bartender for 7 hours? The total cost is 830, including a bar, cooler, and drinks for mixing. What do you all think an average tip would be?

Thank you!

I think a tip should be earned. If she doesn't keep her promises (doesn't include promised items, difficult to work with, etc), I wouldn't give a large tip. I personally don't like tipping too poorly, so if the service isn't great, I personally would probably give around an 8-10% tip. If everything goes fine and she includes the promised items, I would give 15-20%.

If she has been impossible to work with, don't tip anything. A tip is for going above and beyond the call of duty, not a reward for bad service. She is being paid by the company she works for for her time so the bad service doesn't get any tip. Leave a review so future customers will be warned.

100% leaving a bad review, I'm just waiting until the wedding is over! She had really good reviews too! I'm thinking it was her friends writing it. UGH! Thank you for the advice. Smiley smile

Will guests be able to tip her as well? If so, I'd stick with no more than 10%. Did she by chance include gratuities in your contract? If yes, then tip the difference up to 20%.

15-18% is usually common for most services if you were in a bar / restaurant.
