Bartender Contract

Kimmyyy, on February 24, 2021 at 6:31 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hi all!

We are getting married on 04/02/2021 and I am currently in the process of finalizing things with the bartender I chose. The issue is, I just found out they do not have a contract and instead use their invoice in lieu of one. I'm not super comfortable with that but am curious about outside opinions on it. Has anyone ever run into this issue? Would y'all suggest I draft my own contract and ask it to be signed? I just don't trust people, to be honest.

Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable hiring and paying someone without a contract. Id make my own contract and ask them to sign it. If they say no then it's a good thing you're finding out now rather than the day if your wedding.
Now I'm paranoid for when I have to find a bartender. 😬

Have them draw one up or offer to do it yourself and make sure both parties agreem . A receipt is not sufficient because it will not protect you.

Agreed, I thought it was so strange, especially since they have great reviews and awards on The Knot (https://www.theknot.com/marketplace/elite-bartending-services-san-antonio-tx-641635). I'm hoping that if I offer a fair contract they'll agree to sign, as they were the best out of all the quotes I got. I just don't understand how they got this far without signing contracts! That is just bizarre to me.

I feel the same. Thank you for the advice! I wish I'd gotten on this forum way back when I started planning.

I wouldn't hire a vendor without a contract. I learned this the hard way. We hired a florist/decorator without one and she ended up messing up a ton of things at the wedding. She was also purchasing things for our wedding without running it by either my husband or I then expecting us to pay for it.

I never ran into this issue. However me personally I'd make up my own contract and have them sign it.

I told my fiance in the beginning of planning our wedding that anyone we do business with needs to have a contract with us and if they don't have one we will make one. My rule nobody gets my money without contracts.

I'm right there with you, I would not be very comfortable with that. I would ask for a contract or write one up myself. It doesn't have to be long or super complicated and there are templates online to help. Good luck!

Yeah you need those contracts. Something in writing with your wedding date and times they will be there. Got to cover your own butt in the event people decide to be crappy

Thank you, everyone! I told them I wasn't comfortable without having a contract, so they sent me one. It looked like something they'd used before, so I don't really understand why they wouldn't lead with it, but whatever... 🤷‍♀️ It's very basic but I feel it covers most of the important things, and the invoice does state the date and times, so I'm hoping those combined will be enough...
