Bar sign wording

Rachel, on March 4, 2020 at 10:44 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Hi ladies!

We are doing an open bar and giving an upfront amount to our venue for the bar, once that runs out it will switch to a cash bar ($4 beer, $5 wine, $7 liquor drinks). I’m trying to think of a cute sign to put on the bar top but don’t want anyone to be mislead into thinking that the drinks are free through the whole night (although there’s a large possibility they will drink for free all night, based on our calculations the amount we’re giving up front is rather substantial).
Any ideas?!
*also I understand that many of you may think this is rude to not host for the entire event. Like said above we are giving an amount that we feel would more than cover the amount everyone wants to drink & then some.

I went to a wedding like this the didn't have any signage. It was open bar at the beginning and then once it was not, the bartenders just said "the tab is maxed out. that will be $XX" when people ordered. It wasn't a problem.

Okay! As a guest did you know that was going to be the situation beforehand? A lot of our friends already know we’re going this route, I just don’t want anyone to be shocked at having to pull out their wallet

It was just not a big deal. We didn't know ahead of time. It was nice that they took credit cards too. I think a lot of people don't carry cash these days.

We are doing the same thing! Certain amount of wine and beer and when it runs out then all alchohol will be cash. Unlimited soda though. Bartenders will tell guests the tab is now closed and tell them the pricing. I also did see this sign online and might do something similar to this Bar sign wording 1

Yeah, I would like to include something small at the bottom of our bar sign/menu with similar wording! I just don’t want people to rush to drink and get wasted too quickly. We may end up letting word of mouth take over since we’re having a smaller wedding!

I’ll double check with the vendor on the cards. I don’t think it would be a problem since the event is held at a restaurant! But want to make sure there is a card reader in our area to make it easier on the guests & servers 😊

My husband and I had a full open bar all night, but I did make a menu for guests that was at the bar so they knew what we had and didn't have to bother the bartender by constantly asking her what was there. You could do something like this and then just add in the prices next to the drink. You could have the bartender put the menu's or list at the bar when it goes to a cash bar. That way guests know when it changes over.
