Bar question

CountryBride, on October 21, 2021 at 1:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

So my Bartender said that he can do this system where everyone who drinks gets a band for the night, I am having a 100 person wedding and only 55 of the guests drink, I have about 12 adults who don't drink due to religion, recovering alcoholic, and the rest of the guest list is kids, Our original plan was for us to pay 23.00 for every adult and then the kids drink free, however, he said that he could charge me 6.00 for everyone who doesn't drink and then give everyone a wrist band who will be drinking and charge me the bar price for those people. I don't know about this idea I am all for saving money but won't the people wearing wristbands be tacky? and for Clarification, I will be paying for the entire bar just trying to save money where I can

Honestly this sounds like more headache than it’s worth. Look for other areas to cut out to save money: champagne toasts, favors, welcome bags, bridesmaids’ robes and jewelry, etc. People say the guest experience (food/bar/dj) makes or breaks the event for them. Even if someone doesn’t normally drink, they may decide to at your wedding. If you have a club bracelet for the drinkers then you may run out of bracelets or alcohol. So just have the same drinks available to everyone 21+ and let the guests decide on their own.

I agree, I think the wristband only for the drinkers might look tacky. It's kinda of a label? I say just pay the bar price for everyone. I don't think it would save a ton of money overall.

Would they let you do a consumption bar where you only actually pay for the alcohol that people drink and not a set amount per person? That sounds like it might work better for you.

If you do consumption bar, there is no oversight on how many drinks are served so it ends up being much more expensive. Someone gets a drink, take a sip and decide they don’t like it, they get up for any reason and it’s removed by waitstaff so they get another drink before finishing the first. You are often charged for full bottles if they only open to pour once. So basic open bar is cheapest. No need for bracelets.

Wearing a wrist band to get a drink would make me feel like I was at a concert, not a wedding. There has to be some other way for them to only charge you for those drinking!

I think that's the best choice!
