The venue that is our #1 choice just sent us their bar packages. One is cash bar ... We don't want to do that. Two is $50 a person 5 hour open bar w/ top shelf liquors and Three is 5 hours beer & wine for $30 a person. $50 a person seems insane to me because SO many of the aunts & uncles don't drink...

$50 a person seems insane to me because SO many of the aunts & uncles don't drink or will have one beverage with dinner. That's a $50 drink! FI & I were thinking about just doing an on-consumption open bar but Im worried about the bartenders padding the tab to increase gratuity or simply forgetting exact numbers and estimating in the venues favor. I'm a bartender & have heard of this happening! With that concern the $30 beer & wine might even out to be our best choice. Would you be annoyed if you traveled out of state & were only provided beer & wine, no liquor?

What option would you choose?

For comparison, we're paying $35 per person for 5 hours open bar in Massachusetts.

I think a beer and wine bar is quite acceptable ... and I am allergic to beer and don't drink wine. I'd just grab a soda or ice water and be happy that I was invited to share the day with friends and family

That venue is beautiful! We contacted them when we first started looking around but never heard back. Now we are set on having a camp venue so our guests can stay the night!

@MinD , my BFF can't have beer due to a gluten allergy so hopefully we can get a cider included!
