Bar options

If you don't have the means to have an open bar, what would you prefer instead as a guest?

We are planning on having free beer and two signature drinks and then the rest a cash bar, but I keep seeing people knock cash bars. I don't know if it's just where I live, but I have never even been to a wedding with an open bar so I am just looking for input.

Thanks!

We are doing a full cash bar. We just can’t afford to do an open bar. We will provide lemonade and water for our guests.

Open bar is very expensive, at our venue it's another $33 per person... it's just not happening.

Free beer & signature drinks are WAY better than just a full cash bar. We've been to 1 wedding with a cash bar, it wasn't the best but we still stayed and had fun! We had a full open bar, but obviously that's not in budget for everyone.

I don’t think a fully open bar is necessary. Providing beer and wine for everyone is perfectly fine.

Yeah we've splurged other places. A lot of our friends are heavy drinkers and we'd rather spend that money other places then end up with mess lol

We are doing 2 types of beer for free in kegs, 2 types of wine a red and a white. The rest is cash bar. I don't care for signature drinks myself; they are too sugary for my taste but I do see there appeal.

One of the signature drinks is going to me a spin on a moscow mule because it's my favorite... not sure on the other one yet. We aren't doing wine because nobody really drinks wine that we're inviting so it would be a waste for us.

I think what you're offering sounds good already to be honest

We're only providing beer and wine for our guests and when it's out, it's out! I think what you have will be perfectly fine Open bar pricing is INSANE

I would prefer that you only offer beer and signature drinks. people shoudlnt' have to subsidize your party.

We're not making anyone do anything, it's just there if people want something else.

Right!? anyone that we've talked to about our wedding knows what we're planning and nobody has complained. We're sticking with our plan.

Cash bars are only annoying when you are not properly notified. It's not like anyone doesn't want free food and drink, but most people are aware of how expensive that can be. We are only offering wine, beer, and a signature drink in additional to some champagne. If we were in a traditional venue I would still be fine serving only that for free and adding a cash bar for those that wish to enjoy liquor. I think what you're doing is fine but would absolutely make sure guests are aware.

We did a modified open bar for our wedding.

I would do the free cocktails and beer and ditch the idea of a cash bar. Honestly, as a guest, I’d rather leave a reception then pay a bar tab.

We are going to list it on our wedding website I think.

I would plan on heavy drinkers drinking a lot regardless if it's free or not.

Yes, but a little cheaper for us.

Hosting beer and signature drinks is an open bar, just a modified open bar.

We are doing a cash bar (which also will help keep the guests from getting "marinated"), but are serving wine with the meal. We just couldn't afford an open bar.
