Bar Glasses

Dana, on July 6, 2018 at 11:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

I need to know how many bar glasses to get for our guests... I am having almost 200 coming and we cant have a dishwasher washing glasses per our venue contract. I read somewhere the average wedding guest drinks 7 drinks so will I need 1400 glasses for our guest? That is soooo many and really an extra cost I wasnt expecting.

Why can’t you have a dishwasher? I’d say 7 glasses per person sounds right, plus take into consideration if you’re planning on having water glasses on the table.

They said their sinks arent set up for industrial something or another.... And yes we have water and wine glasses on the tables so I was just going to order a small amount of extra water glasses but a lot of extra wine ones as well in case people want more than one glass with dinner.

Hi Dana! Welcome to WeddingWire! I'm sorry you're encountering this unexpected cost, but yes, you will need to have a good deal of glasses for the bar to use. Keep in mind that not everyone will drink the same things, so you'll need to rent beer/champagne/wine/cocktail glasses. If you ask your caterer for assistance, they should be able to help you determine a more exact number. I'd say you could stick closer to 1000.

Are you doing any type of signature cocktail?

Thank You! Yes we are doing a strawberry moscow mule and an old fashion! We also will have 2 types of wine and 3 beers (in cans). We are only offering champagne for the toast so I have enough of the champagne glasses. I also figured they could just use the old fashion glasses for any mixed drinks they wanted!

Just a thought here....would it be cheaper to hire a waiter to go table to table with the wine, pouring into the glass they all ready have then trying to estimate the number of glasses you would need. I am just trying to think of other ways to cut down on the number. It is estimate that people drink 2-3 alcoholic drinks for the first hour, then 1 each hour after. Water, tea, coffee, soda, etc will all need additional glasses.

Are you providing your own liquor and that's why you have to provide your own glasses? sorry just trying to get some clarity here...that seems odd that they would tell you that they cannot accommodate washing dishes. BUT you would need 1 for water, 1 for champagne toast, 1 for whatever else they are drinking and I would figure (2-3 drinks per person) unless you know your crowd and they drink more than that. Are you serving beer out of the bottle?tap? what size cups are you using for each drink or are you using the same size?

Uhmmmm YUM!! That sounds so delicious! Moscow Mules just so happen to be one of my favorite drinks, and yet I've never had a strawberry one!

I think that's a decent plan and you could certainly count on some people to do that, but people usually expect a new glass with each new drink Smiley ups You also have to consider that (as people get tipsy and clumsy) some glasses are bound to break, so SOME back-ups are necessary! I personally wouldn't mind re-using my glass at all though, so I think you're fine with whatever you end up choosing to do!

Happeningmom gave me the idea to dig a little deeper so I called my catering company and they actually do an unlimited bar package for !3 per guest so I think that’s what we’re going to do! It includes all the glasses we need!
