Bangs or no bangs?

DrEm, on March 3, 2017 at 6:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hello! I have clavicle-length hair and bangs, and am trying to decide whether to keep or grow out the bangs for my wedding.

I got bangs for the first time this November, so it's not like they're my signature look. But my initial bangs looked REALLY good. Even my FH, who normally hates bangs, admitted they are super flattering on me.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures with the awesome bangs, and when I got them trimmed 6 weeks later the person did a terrible job. They're now overdue for a trim.

I have an appointment soon with a well-reviewed hairstylist in the out-of-state city where I'm getting married. My plan was to take pictures after the haircut, then schedule an appointment with the same stylist a couple of days before the wedding to get them re-cut. (If she does a good job.)

Now I'm wondering if it's safer to just grow them and pull them back for the wedding in Oct? I'm having a hard time finding many inspo pics for bridal bangs anyway. Any advice?

Literally no pictures at all with the good bangs! I know that sounds crazy, but I didn't even think of it (I rarely take selfies, and I stupidly assumed that I'd just keep getting them trimmed periodically and they'd look the same.) All my pics with family over Xmas, wedding dress shopping, etc is with the current poorly cut bangs.

I am having the same problem. My hair is collarbone length now after a pixie, and when my hair was long I had bangs and loved them.

Every time I have bangs I love them on the initial cut and all trims turn out horrible. I'd grow them out and then if you want bangs trim them closer to the wedding and get a whole head haircut/trim. You can always pin them back.

My suggestion is that if you think you want bangs, do it now! Like yesterday. You need to give them enough time to grow out. I got my bangs two days before my wedding and I wasn't used to them on my wedding day. It turned out okay, but I wish I'd done it sooner so I could get used to how they look by the end of the day (they looked very wind blown).

Thanks, everyone! @Elizabeth, I do already have bangs, they're just due for a trim. If I'm going to grow them out, I figure I shouldn't get them trimmed, though, since I'm cutting it close anyway (only 7 months until the wedding, so they'd be maybe chin length?) Good to hear your experience RE them being wind blown. Hadn't thought of that. My ceremony will be outside, so that could be a concern if I keep the bangs.

I have no opinion on bangs. However, your avatar is literally the cutest cat I've ever seen in my life.

If you love the bangs then go for it.

Thanks @Delfina! She's very overweight because I'm a pushover and give her extra food when she begs, but she has always been quite photogenic Smiley smile

Don't blame you at all! Those eyes!!! I'd be a pushover too!

I'd love to have a cat, but we have a dog, a rabbit and an aquarium full of fish, so FH says we need to stop adding to the family until we move to the bigger place.

Growing out bangs takes a lot of time and patience. If you decide to grow them out just remember that you'll still need to get them trimmed, just not as often. You want to keep your hair healthy and free of split ends so it'll grow better.

DrEm, is your reception inside? Do you have time between ceremony and reception to clean them up if they look wind blown? Will the rest of your hair be down or up?

What happened with me is that our first look was outside and it was a very, very windy day. Plus, it was snowing and the wind kept blowing the snow into our faces. We had such a large bridal party that photos (both indoor and outdoors) took a long time, so we went straight from first look photos into ceremony with only 10-15 minutes for me to get into my ceremony dress (I used a different dress for first look), so I didn't have time to touch up my bangs and didn't even realize there was a problem honestly until just before I walked down the aisle. If there's enough time to fix them, you should be fine.

@Elizabeth K: Reception is inside, but at same venue, so ceremony is immediately followed by cocktail hour/pictures, then the reception. I'm either going to have hair up or half up.
