Band vs. DJ Prices

Kelsey, on August 20, 2015 at 8:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Starting to think about whether we want to have a band or a DJ at our reception. Does anybody know what bands cost? I know we'll have to call around and price them, but I was just wondering what a general price might be in Pittsburgh!

Not sure about specific prices for Pittsburgh, but from what I've heard bands are generally more expensive than a DJ. Sorry, not sure how helpful that was!!

Yeah, I've heard that bands can be double. I'm just not even sure what the general range is!

Try the weddingwire vendor search and send out emails asking for quotes. We did this initially, and found out that a band would literally cost several thousands of dollars more than a DJ, so it was not an option for us. We are in NYC, not sure about Pittsburgh prices.

Bands are typically more expensive than DJs and are less helpful during the wedding

Bands are way more. The only one I recommend is 11,000.00. And worth every cent.

A band was our one big must have b/c we typically hate dj's. We expected 4-5k in the Indianapolis, but we hired a band that will be doing ceremony, cocktail hour, all the emcee duties, and playing live for 4 hours. They were $2200 and the highest rated wedding band on the knot for my area and pretty high on WW. So far they have been amazing to work with. Definitely do your research and be open to different bands.

Im in upstate NY and our band was 2350 (they are awesome). They provide 4 hours of music and 1 hour of DJing during the cocktail hour. The desired DJ's in our area were anywhere from ****.

Our reception venue gave us a list of every dj/band that has ever played there with the most recent cost of each. We found out that bands are cheaper in my area, so that was helpful.

I was struggling with this decision too, I love live music but we are also trying to keep prices down. I think i like the versatility of a Dj and being able to have them keep everything on schedule. plus we are going to have a wide range of ages so i think the DJ is the best option
