Band vs dj (bay Area, ca recommendations appreciated)

Sophia, on January 18, 2018 at 5:32 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums here; I've been lurking for awhile, but decided to finally make an account and reach out since I definitely have some questions that I would love opinions on! My fiance and I have been engaged since early 2017. We were originally planning on a December '18 wedding, but decided to move it up to May since he received orders to report overseas (we are both in the military) in August. I know there are already a lot of band vs DJ discussions out there, but I was wondering if I could get some specific feedback from people who have hired DJs or bands in the area? I would really love having a band and have been able to find some good ones that are quoting around $**** (which is in our budget). I would be ok with a DJ, but am terrified of hiring one that ends up being tacky or amateurish.

Does anyone know what a good price for a professional DJ in the Bay Area is? And recommendations would be appreciated! We are not looking for a heavy club feeling - think classy and someone who will work to make OUR vision come true. We're also not into the club-y colorful dance lights.

For bands, we are looking at the Lucky Devils band, The Klipptones, Ben Mallare (this would be awesome but is the priciest one so far), Decades, and 415. Any suggestions, from people in the area?

And one last questions - is dance floor lighting really necessary? Right now it just seems like such an extra cost and I honestly cannot remember anything about lighting from the 3 past weddings I've been to.

Thank you in advance!

We are using All Ears DJ and they are based in the Bay Area! It’s 1250 for just DJ services but we paying $1750 and he will play acoustic guitar and sing during our ceremony and cocktail hour as well. I wanted a band but they are so expensive in in this area and I felt like this was a good compromise for a decent price!

I'm from the Sacramento area and just got married in December in Sonoma. I hired a band from San Francisco that I absolutely recommend. Check out Vintage Jukebox Orchestra led by Laurent Fourgo. He has a few different bands and I ended up using 2 of his bands (a smaller one during dinner and then a bigger group for dancing) that were so amazing! Price was $3800 for cocktail hour and reception.

    Hi Sophia,

My fiancee and I are between lucky devils and Ben mallare. Did you end up going with either of them and how did it go?

    Thanks!
