Hi ladies!
We’re wrapping up our honeymoon in the outer banks in NC. We got married on 9/5/2020. It’s raining today, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to share some things we did we really enjoyed, and some things I’d advise against.
1. We ate alone. It was amazing. Our coordination team set up the most beautiful sweetheart table upstairs overlooking the water behind our venue. It was my husbands idea, I can’t take all the credit. But I can’t stress this enough: schedule time to be alone. Doesn’t have to be a meal.
2. We had so many little touches I DIY’d or brought from home. Pictures, notes I framed of my grandmothers, the jewelry I wore. It made the day really special.
3. Corsages and a handwritten card make a great gift for the future in-laws, your family, etc.
4. We had our last dance alone while people lined up outside for sparkler send off. Alone time people. It’s amazing.
5. I made my own bouquet and my sisters bouquet, but used a florist for centerpieces and corsages. Cheaper? Maybe a smidge, but I got to really enjoy and control my bouquet and it lasts forever. It also didn’t wilt throughout the night for photos. Highly recommend.
6. We did a thank you speech instead of best man/MOH toasts. Loved it. Got to say a lot of things I wanted to tell people all at one time.
7. I got ready at our house the morning of, and did my own makeup in peace. Husband was there and I loved our morning. Super chill.
8. Limit who you have in the bridal suite with you when getting ready. I made a point to have friends only arrive right before ceremony time. Kept it super stress-free.
9. The last item leads into this one: small bridal party. I only had my sister and my husband had his best friend. It was so simple and less chaotic day of. I did incorporate my friends children as flower girls and ring bearers. It was the perfect way to include people close to me, without full-on bridal party crew.
10. Only regret was my hair. I should have trusted my gut and done it myself, but I used my longtime hairstylist. It was ok then fell immediately and I kept touching up throughout the day with my wand.
Whatever you do, stay true to yourself and trust your gut. Protect your sanity lol.
