Ballgown question

Arianna, on January 6, 2021 at 12:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hey girls!! I’m looking at a ballgown dress and without the slip it’s hitting the floor with 2 inches to spare but I want to poof it more so would that affect the length of the dress? I’m worried that with the slip it would lift it so that my feet were showing and that’s not the looking I’m going for. Thanks for your help ladies!!

You need a gap of at least 1-2 inches so you don't trip. But do you plan to take your heels off? That will make the dress drag because you're losing the altered height. No one will notice your shoes if they do peek out.

Very true I do need a little gap but would the ballgown slip help with that? And yes I do plan on taking off my shoes for the reception.

You won't know until you try on the crinoline with the dress. Some do, some don't. The seamstress needs to alter the dress to your height barefoot.

That makes sense. I don’t mind it dragging in the floor for the reception but I get what your saying and didn’t put that into thought.

Plus if it drags, you will trip on the dress and so will your guests.

I tried on an A-line dress that I loved, but it didn’t flare out quite enough, so the dress consultant put a small crinoline slip under it to give it a little poof, and just that small slip decreased the length enough to make it too short. I would definitely suggest going into the bridal boutique and trying the dress on with a skirt before purchasing one or having it altered

That’s what I was worried about is that it would make it to short. I can’t find that dress anywhere near me anymore so I’m a little stuck on what to do.

When you tried on the dress, were you wearing flats?

If you were barefoot, and the dress was already 2 inches above the ground, I suspect adding the crinoline is going to make it too short. Most designers offer the option of ordering a dress with extra length though. I would call the store where you tried it on, and inquire as to whether that is a possibility.
