Ballgown converted to tea length

Brooke, on June 20, 2018 at 1:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hi all so I’m still torn between ball gown and tea length but my fiancé had this awesome idea and I wanted to know if anyone knew if it would be possible/done something similar/has seen something similar?

he had the idea to take a floor length gown and cut slits on the skirt of the dress and then put buttons around your waist so that for the reception the could take the skirt of the dress and pull up to make it shorter. You could also you the push buttons and cover it with lace. And ribbon and such. You would cover the buttons on your waist with a ribbon or something. Any thoughts? I love the idea but don’t know if it’s doable

Talk to your seamstress and tell her your vision. I imagine you are not the only bride to have considered this; she will likely know if it’s doable, and some tips and tricks to get it done. Good luck!

Agree with this! Definitely talk to a professional who does alterations as they will know if it's doable...

Definitely talk to a seamstress. That sounds like it will come with quite the price tag

I’ve seen this before..but the dress was already made that way. As PP suggested you may need to talk more w/ seamstress bc that’s a lot of work and basically reconstructing a new dress. It could get pricey.

Something that would probably be easier is buying a tea-length dress and a separate big floor length overskirt. Then for the reception you can just remove the whole skirt and voila, new dress!

I also wanted a tea length dress, and ended up with one that has a chapel length train Smiley surprise

I haven't been to a seamstress yet, but I'm thinking about having it shortened with a hi-low hem, where the front is around ankle length and the back is just about a sweep train, which would be fine for the ceremony. Then I'd want the bustle to take the back up to match the front ankle length for the reception. I can't say I've seen it done, but it makes sense in my head.

    Hi Brooke!

I love the idea and it is definitely worth asking a seamstress/alterations professional about Smiley smile That way, you can dance the night away and enjoy your reception without worrying about tripping over your dress. Something to keep in mind, this might be a more complicated fitting/alterations job but I think it would be totally unique.
