Ball Gown POOF

Shannon, on April 25, 2016 at 1:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

Hi everyone! I have a question, I tried on and purchased my dream dress yesterday, it's a lace/tulle ballgown with a cathedral train. I'm only concerned with how poofy it was, I tried on a size 8 and I'm 5'2 size 0. Do you think my dress will have less poof because it's smaller and less fabric? any ideas are appreciated Smiley smile

I've read here many brides who had their dress altered to make it a little less puffy. I think it depends on what you like and the look you are going for. I l would say it's the only day of your life when you will be able to wear a dress like that so go for it!

Was there an option of ordering the dress in a petite size? If not, does the store have a good seamstress on staff that could do their magic?

Possibly, but during your fitting you can have them sew in extra crinoline, or buy a hoop if you want. I bought a hoop for my dress--it seriously looks like a different dress with and without (a million times better with).

I tried mine on with an extra crinoline slip and about died of heat, so the hoop is the way to go if you ask me.

The only option to order it was to take 3 inches off the bottom for height purposes which i added and they do have a seamstress, so that is always an option! I didn't think of that. I seriously love this dress I just don't want to have to worry about people getting knocked over lol!

Depending on what kind of material the skirts are, you can always "fluff them up" the day of the wedding. I'm also wearing a ballgown style dress (and a petticoat), and that was the first thing my dress consultant told me about.

I'd love to see a photo! I'm small, too and just bought a ball gown, with some remorse. I'm sure you look stunning!

Oh my goodness, that dress is STUNNING. You look amazingly beautiful in it! I think the poof is perfect, but you can always take out some layers if you want to once you start alterations.

I don't think it looks too poofy, even if it the smaller size doesn't make it less poofy...it adds to the drama of the dress! But if you really don't like it when you get it, a good seamstress should be able to de-poof it by removing some of the crinoline. Looks great on you!!!

Ooooo, I think I tried that one on - it's looks amazing on you!

When you have alterations done, ask your seamstress about fluffing or battening it down, along with the bustle, and bring whichever BM will be responsible for doing it! My MOH is in charge of that aspect for me - it's the only thing I'm "requiring" of her that day. :-)

Can they cut out layers of crinoline underneath your dress is you're looking for less poof? That's something my consultant suggested to me!

    ETA: it's gorgeous!!!

There is a potential for less poof because of the size difference. I'm curious why you chose a ball gown though if you don't want the poof....

If you are worried about poof, your seamstress should be able to remove some of the bottom, inner layers to deflate it. It looks stunning as is though!

Well your dress will be less fabric so there's that. However, sometimes dress may look even more poofy brand new because the fabric is stiffer and hasn't had the wear from being a sample gown. The good thing is that ballgowns have many layers and if your dress is too poofy it should be able to fix easily.

That dress is beautiful on you! You can always add or remove the poof as you want by a seamstress. No need to stress!

I hate to rain on your parade, but odds are it will be more poofy when it comes in! The sample size dress is tried on often, therefore less poofy. New ball gowns tend to be poofier. Did you ask alterations if they can remove a few layers before you bought it?
