Bad reviews

Marlenny, on January 1, 2017 at 7:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hello everyone so my fiancé and I are due to get married on August second. We had what I thought was an awesome deal on our wedding vendor because he does everything, DJ, Photography, flowers and videographer. But i just looked him up and he has horrible reviews as well as excellent once. It's about half and half, he's working with our budget but now we're afraid to book him. What do you think?

I am always hesitant about all in one companies. It makes it difficult to vet each individual vendor. He probably have vendors in each category that are good and some that aren't (especially if his reviews are so split). Do you get to meet and select each vendor (i.e., florist, dj, photographer). Those are major vendors that, IMO, should be hand selected. For example, photographers have vastly different styles so how will you know what your getting unless you see their specific work.

If you have to doubt it, I would find someone else

It would make me uncomfortable. Honestly, I've seen so many vendors to choose from that have 5 stars, that I would be hesitant to even contact someone who only had 4 stars (unless they had one ridiculous negative review, or something like that). You should look at reviews on different sites also - like The Knot, Facebook, Google, etc if you haven't already.

I don't recommend any multi-pro companies. In my area at least, the 'aggregators" subcontract to sub-standard dj's, etc who cannot fill their own calendars, pay them less money than they charge you, and usually the quality is terrible because they really don't know about any of "pros" the refer or what they do.

What can he know about florists AND DJ's?

    right.

    Search out individual pros.

I went through this recently. I was hesitant to order std's from vistaprint because the reviews were horrible. I noticed that on each review they responded back & fixed the problem. I decided to try them out & I love

them!!!!! If I were you I would talk to the vendor & see what vibe you get from him. Ask for pictures too! He/She should have samples from the work on photography, flowers & video. Good luck.

It's different Alexis. Vista print is a company that does one thing. This is a contractor who sub contracts out to other, very different pros. They always mark them up and usually the results are sub-par.

Hinestly, I would be uncomfortable booking the vendor. When you have a company that does so many things, it's hard to be an expert at each job and it just ends up being mediocre at all of them. I would take the time to find the perfect match for everything you need for each part of your wedding. I think you will end up much happier.

My venue is all inclusive and they provide us with the vendors (dj, florist, photographer, etc.) However, when I looked up each vendors review separately they all had good reviews and I've even talked to brides to who used them and they loved it. So I would suggest looking up each vendors review separately if that's the case. If this person is doing all of it, I would ask a bunch of questions and be very concerned.

I would be very skeptical of this wedding vendor. They may do all of those things or have someone they contract, but very likely that they don't do each thing at an expert level. Spend more time hand picking vendors you love that are good at the thing they do, not using a one stop shop.

Don't use an all in one vendor. Especially if it's one person. They can't do everything. A wedding coordinator will help you find vendors, but they themselves don't do the actual work.
