Bad Luck Start Time. Anyone else ever heard this?

Reading the thread about start times got me thinking about this. I've always heard that it's bad luck to start your wedding ceremony on the hour. Instead it should be started on the half hour. The explanation I always hear is because the minute hand on the clock will be traveling upward rather than down. Has anyone else heard of this? Maybe it's a regional or southern thing?

BTW, I'm in no way implying that you will actually have bad luck if your wedding starts on the hour. I think it's interesting to see varying wedding traditions.

I heard it on here before.

My marriage is doomed because it's on the hour.

I never heard of it until I came here, but I think one bride on here set her start time based on this.

ETA: Ours started at 5:30 so I guess we're all set!

Never heard of this. My time is 12:30 only because that's what works best with our venue and our schedule that day.

We got married at 2:00 PM (27 years ago).

I've had 2-3 couples mention the superstition and, yes, they wanted to start when the minute hand was on the upswing.

I never heard that reason, but a different one - my uncle, who officiated our wedding, told me weddings typically start on the half-hour and funerals on the hour.

ETA: we started on the hour anyway - we're not superstitious!

I've never heard of this, however our church would only schedule at the half hour time slots. So our ceremony will start at 12:30p.m.

I saw something about this on snopes.com under wedding customs. In the same article it also talks about how Saturdays are not a good day to get married.

The first time around I got married on the half hour and we didn't last so I really don't put any weight on superstitions.

I've never heard of it. I'm so overwhelmed by all of the superstitions. I'm just saying "eff it" to all of them because I can't keep track.

I have heard, never start a wedding with the clock hands going down, always schedule the time with them going up. On the half hour, Like: 4:30-4:45pm or 5:30-5:45 not 4:00 or 5:00pm.
