Backyard Wedding Parking

Victoria, on July 31, 2018 at 4:06 PM Posted in Planning 1 2
I'm having a casual wedding in the backyard of a house on a narrow suburban street and with about 75-80 people we are looking at about 30 cars. The wedding is at my dads house and he has room for about 10 cars in the front yard, leaving the driveway clear for catering and other venders. My fiance's dad lives a few doors down the road and can fit another 10 cars in his yard&driveway. Leaving us with another 10 cars (maybe 15 if there isnt as much yard space) that we will have to park on the street. There is no parking lot in walking distance and the closest one we would need a shuttle for and that is not really in the budget and I worry will be annoying for some guests, most being eldery or having young kids&babies. Mainly my question is do I ask my neighbors if they mind the over-flow of cars on the street? How should we ask? And will my guests mind parking on the street&yard or would a proper parking lot be expected?

I would absolutely let the neighbors know what is going on and maybe give them a little something for their "trouble". Is Uber available? If so, and if you have a wedding website, I would let people know that parking will be limited, so ridesharing is strongly recommended.

Our venue is a private home and has no parking. Fortunately, there is a lot right down the road. We have asked (small wedding, using word of mouth) people to drop off guests at the door. We will be bringing our golf cart to have the driver escorted back to the home. It is on a quiet, residential street, so hopefully this will all work out the way we have it in our mind.

Hi Victoria! I would definitely try communicating with your neighbors to give them a heads up so they can be prepared for the influx of cars! This will really help things flow more efficiently!
