Backyard wedding opinions?

Just looking for some opinions on backyard weddings. I think they're nice if you aren't looking to spend a lot (though renting everything can easily become just as expensive) but recently I've been hearing that people consider them tacky or a "white trash wedding". Thoughts on this?

We are having a backyard wedding and reception but only for about 40-50 people. It is a second wedding for both of us (we are both in our mid 50's). Building our own dance floor, catered hors d'oeurves, building our own wedding arch we will repurpose in the yard, hiring a dj, parking isn't an issue on our street.

I am going to be super pissed if my $30,000 backyard wedding looks trashy.

I don't think trashy, BUT unless you or your mom is used to doing this, it may be tough. It also may be more expensive than you think. My parents have a great house for entertaining, plenty of parking, lots of bathrooms (so none of those ugly port a potties). YMMV

ETA -- My parents have outlets in the back at various places, to handle Jacuzzi and pool equipment, so vendor power cords, while protected, are not all over the place. They can move cars out of the garage, and use that for food prep area. As much as my mom entertains, she was OK with doing the engagement party, NOT wedding.
