Backyard wedding ground

Misty, on December 20, 2017 at 3:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 22
Hello WW friends! I’m planning a backyard wedding for Jan 13 2018 with a 2p ceremony. I’m having a hard time deciding what to do with the leaves in our backyard. Blow them out completely or even then our over the yard. I’m renting a tent white top with clear sides in case it’s freezing which will have flooring and a furnace. Since I live in Raleigh NC it can be 60 degrees or 30 degrees. My FH and I blew half the leaves since they were soo deep. If we blow all the leaves I’m thinking I’ll need either pine straw, saw dust...something down. My dress does have a small train so I know it’s going to get dirty but I’d like to prevent mud as much as possible. I’ll post a picture with what we have and any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

I would blow all the leaves out-get rid of them completely, and perhaps put wood chips, just case of allergies to the saw, 🤷🏻‍♀️,

Blow them all and talk to your homeowner's insurance. Backyard weddings can be a huge liability and before getting too deep into planning see what their recommendations are to help reduce liability (if you keep the leaves they are a slip and fall hazard).

I would talk to the rental company and see what they suggest.

I think saw dust and pine is a horrible idea. It'll be EVERYWHERE and people will be covered it and unhappy (I would be at least).

Ditto to MrsBdeG on contacting your insurance...

Thank you so much. My fiancé is a carpenter so we have access to a wood chip type “dust”. We were thinking of having that where people would mostly be walking.

We are inviting immediate family and 30 close friends. I have a umbrella policy that covers accidents if needed that happened on our property. Thank you so much for the tip. I’ll call and confirm though. 🙂

We were considering something similar however due to it being an "event" it wasn't covered. They went as far as saying someone would have to come out from the city and from the insurance company to ensure everything was up to code, we had proper permits, proper parking. proper waste management based on the event size, proper catering license, proper food storage...etc. It would have been a nightmare on our end. I just thought I'd give you a heads up.

Do your guests know that it will be an outdoor wedding on dirt? That information would greatly influence my attire, particularly footwear.

Blow them all out and put wood chips or something down. Some leaves are slippery when they’re wet.

I'd second the wood chips or something similar. Is there a rain/weather location if it gets too wet/muddy or cold?

What is currently there? Hard to tell in the photo. Is that dirt or pavement?

All guests invited have been to our home and have seen our backyard. We specified on the invitation it would be outside and to dress warm. 🙂

Yes! m. I’m also haveing a hot drink bar and supplying Sherpa blankets. We will also have our fire pit going. The tent furnace will get the tent temperature up to 70 degrees if needed.

It’s mostly dirt, the grey sandy kind.

I think you're fine just getting rid of the leaves and keeping the dirt then

I'd blow out the leaves, sounds slippery. Smiley smile
