Backyard Ceremony

Christie, on April 27, 2020 at 4:56 PM Posted in Planning 2 7

Hi there! My wedding is supposed to be in August and we have a backup plan (because of covid) to have a small backyard ceremony and postpone the reception till later. Anyone doing this and deciding to use a couple vendors for your private ceremony? For example, I'd like photos to be taken but I'd also like photos to be taken at the later reception. We booked a videographer, should I just use them for the private ceremony? Save hair and make up for the full reception? Also, what if it rains?? Uh, don't know how this back up plan is going to work! Help!

Since I am planning on having another ceremony at my postponed wedding/reception, I am keeping all my vendors that day, besides my officiant - will have a family member officiate since we will already be married. We are paying our photographer for 1 hour during the small ceremony. I am having hair and makeup done for both, but am finding someone different for the small ceremony since the company I am using for the big wedding requires a minimum number of services. If it rains, we will probably wait as long as we can and maybe use umbrellas? Argh yes there is so much to think about and plan for!

We are doing the same exact thing! I wanted photos as well! My photographer is wonderful and is on board with coming we are using my original officiant as well either via zoom or he will come to my parents house depending on restrictions I decided not to have the videographer come I will just have a family member record it. I would like to atleast have my hair done and I’ll probably do my own makeup my hair dresser is willing to come to my house. I’m going to rent a tent Incase it rains I plan to put some of my decor out as well to make it feel a little more special. I would like to try and get a simple bouquet as well. The only thing is that I had to pay my photographer and officiant a little extra since it’s considered an elopement ceremony but both very reasonable and I am ok with paying them extra but I didn’t want to keep adding on more vendors because I’m sure we would have to pay them as well.

I love the ideas in here. July 18 wedding. At first I was thinking plan B where my destination wedding was (3 hours away) because all my vendors are there. But now I am thinking because of you all, thank you!!! That we should get married at our house and just hire a local photographer. Then we can do a vow renewal next year with the big reception with all our vendors. I still would love to have our original wedding but this really could work out. We have a nice patio in our backyard with big trees and we could fill it up with flowers and it could still be pretty. Also our dog could be the ring barrier haha. I can’t wait to hear more ideas and will also post ideas if I think of anything else.

We are going backyard elopement route next week and nixed certain vendors (dj is only so fun without any dancing!), kept flowers which seemed easy to do safely. I am torn about hair / make up.
After postponing on all our guests— does it seem rude/ reckless to get make up done before i am with 10 closest family members. Anyone have ideas here? Can’t imagine how I would do this with a mask on! Smiley smile

Girl, we are planning to do the same exact thing. Small ceremony with 10 family members at our church. Then a little get together in the backyard. (Then push the big celebration to next year). I’ve opted to keep my wedding photographer and videographer for memorabilia. I also have kept my makeup artist! Hope this helps 🤗
