Backless strappless Bra for a larger chest

Megan, on April 20, 2021 at 11:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 24

Hi ladies,

I am having a bit of a crisis 46 days out from the wedding. My dress is long sleeve, v-neck ( think Kate Middleton's dress) and the back is see-through lace. I thought the tailor was going to be able sew the cups from my strapless bra into dress but she said it won't offer enough support for me ( I'm a 36DDD). Does anyone have experience with this and recommend a good strapless bra with a clear strap in the back or one that just tapes on the side? Or a nude one that comes down pretty low in the back? It's driving me nuts you can see the strapless bra in the back. I spent hours looking online last night and there's very limited options that come in 36DDD and the ones that do don't have very promising review. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Try adore me. I found one that was low in the front and the back and it was a nude color. My dress has sheer lace in some spots and I’m not totally confident the seamstress can get the dress to support me. I’m 34f so I feel your pain!

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, the one I think you are talking about is sold out in anything close to my size. Seems to be a theme I'm seeing Smiley sad I agree, I'm torn between pushing for the cups to be sewn in by her or someone else in fear that she's right and there won't be enough support. I will probably have to just deal with part of the bra showing in the back.

Girl I am right there with you! Getting married 6.5.21. With a a slightly bigger chest than you, I hated dress shopping couldn’t find anything where I live so traveled 3 hours to David’s bridal and they kept bringing me backless dresses. I told them this would not work, the convinced me by saying when they have my correct measurements and the dress is altered it would offer enough support, after alterations it didn’t. I NEED THE SUPPORT! Not sure what I will do. There is a backless bra at https://misseskisses.com/. You will also likely need to purchase the voluptuous pads. It is quite expensive $130 ish. I bought this for my dress, and while it does work it doesn’t give the lift I was looking for in my dress but will work for other dresses I own. (It pushes them together and makes my chest look even more ridiculous than it already does) but def something worth checking out if you are interested, do the free online fitting if you do purchase. Good luck!

That's my date too! Thank you for the suggestion. that is one I haven't come across yet. I am seriously ordering every possible option that actually comes in my size in hopes that just one of them works for me! I feel so mislead like you too. The girl at the bridal shop told me it would be no problem sewing in the cups from my bra and now here we are. So frustrating. My tailor didn't seem to thing seeing the nude strapless bra through the dress was a problem. You don't get a see through/backless dress to have to end up having the bra peak through! ugh. Thankgs again and good luck!

I’m a slightly smaller cup size, but just bought the backless strapless from Soma and really like it! They only have through DD, but I could have gone down a size, so may be worth trying if there’s a store nearby?
I tried several similar options from Amazon first and had no luck, they were too small or had strange gaping and offered no support. I wouldn’t recommend going down that path for anyone else in the D+ club. Good luck!

You could try the Misses Kisses bra. Its expensive but a backless, strapless solution, and has paddles connected by a wire that squeeze your breasts together. However you end up adding padding to the outside of the paddles to keep a natural breast shape, so it may make your boobs appear larger, which may not be what you are going for, but I also feel like the difference is likely less drastic if you have a larger chest to begin with. I have never tried it, but seen it advertised a lot on Instagram.

My wedding dress is low back, low front, and has an illusion lace bodice so there is almost no where to hide a bra or any support. I'm a slightly full 32D/34C and used silicone "cutlets" with my dress for our Covid elopement last spring. They worked okay and were pretty discrete but I feel like it made me look bustier than I wanted, so I think I'm going to try nipple covers and boob tape for our celebration this June. I'm considering getting an inexpensive halter dress for the reception that is completely backless, but I'm unsure how it would work with my boobs. I'm smaller than you but still need some support and don't feel comfortable going braless.

I’m a 42 G and am dreading this lol. For my first wedding it wasn’t an issue cause I wore a corset bra but it wasn’t as supportive as I needed. I’ve been incredibly nervous as this since FH proposed so I’m just lurking!

I have too. I just ordered a pair. I am hoping they don't peek through the lace in the front of my dress since it's a strapless underlay with a v-neck lace overlay. I'm trying everything at this rate. I will report back for anyone who is curious as to what works best!

Maybe get a 2nd opinion from another tailor/seamstress and see what they say? I've seen different types of bras but I am not sure if they'd be any different then having the cups sewn into the dress.

I guess I was lucky in the fact that I didn't realize this would be such a huge issue since the sales women who sold me the dress said they would just sew cups in. So the stress didn't kick in until my first fitting. I don't know what's worse! haha. Do you have your dress aleady?

I will keep everyone posted on which of the several options purchased works best

I would love to hear what works!

For smaller busts sewing in cups is no issue, but cups won't provide support for big breasts when they are sewn into delicate fabric. Sales people aren't always going to point that out when they want to sell you something. I hope you find a good solution.

No! Not for this wedding. I am previously married back in 2018 and divorced. I wore a corset bra type bra from David’s bridal. It wasn’t very supportive but my dress was a corset back so we pulled it very tight as well. So I’m making sure to save all solutions for when I get my dress next year!

Oh good! You are lucky then and smart to do you research first! I didn't know any better and listened to the feedback of the salewoman. I will be sure to let you know if I find anything worth mentioning.

I got a second opinion and she agreed with the first tailor. Sewing cups in will not leave me with any support so exploring other options and hoping for the best!

Try the boob tape "good lines" it's great for any size chest and you can put it on different ways depending on the dress. It's what my mom and I will be using on my day.

    Hey Everyone!

I wanted to give everyone an update on the results of my search for a backless/low back strapless bra for a 36DDD chest. Sadly, nothing workedSmiley sad I am forced to go with the nude strapless and having it show slightly through the lace on my lower back. I've come to terms with it and not going to let it ruin my day but I really wish the saleswoman who sold me the dress didn't give me false hopes of being able to sew bra cups into the dress. Hopefully I will save some other girls the trouble and letdown upfront by saying DO NOT believe anyone who tells you this. Bra cups can only be used for up to a C cup otherwise they offer no support, at least in a backless/lace dress like mine.

With that said, out of all the products I tried, the Original Rabbit Bra USA had the most promise. I was amazed when I first tried them on how well they lifted me but when I went to try on with the wedding dress, they did not lift nearly as much as the strapless bra and no one wants saggy boobs on their wedding day! It also had a lot to do with my one breast being a lot larger than the other. That breast just didn't hold up as well. I know a lot of us deal with that issue too.

Thanks for all the feedback! Hope my feedback helps someone out there.
