Back to long sleeved ball gowns (and gowns with flower lace!)

Rachel, on August 26, 2020 at 4:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
Ladies, those of you who have been following my dress posts know that I’ve posted everything from mermaid to ballgown to strapless to sleeved... it’s been a long debate and picking a top 5 has been difficult for me but I’m slowly narrowing it down. My wedding is not until 2022, so I am in no rush for getting a dress right now as I’m getting all other early planning things taken care of (like securing the venue, which we just did - woohoo!).

That being said, I have to say, I was lucky enough to come across photos on Instagram of a bride with sleeve tattoos (which is what I have) in a long-sleeved wedding dress and after seeing how gorgeous she and the dress looked, I am now considering a long sleeved dress as that was my original plan way back when I started researching dresses. I do think that the type of lace detailing and placement will make a difference in terms of how it will look against tattooed skin, but the long sleeved Hayley Paige dresses that I have seen (specifically the Elysia gown) have looked stunning on tattooed brides! I am now eyeballing all three of these gowns (one is strapless but I love the delicate and feminine flower lace in the skirt). My ring has a very princess-like appearance and I find myself leaning towards a dress with a more “princess” vibe. Yes, I do want a gown that was unique and a statement, but the thought of getting married on the beach in a big, flowy ballgown is just such a romantic image. I know I will need to try the dresses on to make a decision, but these gowns are just stunning to me. 😍 these are the Elysia, Pippa, and Chantelle gowns. The long sleeved ones are very similar with subtle differences, and Chantelle has that gorgeous flower lace in the skirt that I mentioned above. I love gowns with sleeves! Sadly - they looked terrible on me (though I don't have tattoos). I could look at all sorts of gorgeous wedding gowns all day, though. Smiley smile

Do you know when you're planning on going to try on some dresses? Sounds like you'll be trying on a lot of styles, which is great! I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, but it was really fun to try on different things with an open mind and see how they actually looked on me.

For example, white looked awful; it simultaneously washed me out while bringing out the pink undertones in my skin. The poofy, dreamy A-line style shortened my torso way more than I expected.

I'm excited to see your try-on photos if you decide to share them with us!

I am excited to see your try on photos also -you definitely have the taste for dramatic gowns! I would say to try on all different styles of sleeves, as well as sleeveless dresses. Everybody’s tattoos are different and they all look differently under different materials. I had completely planned on getting a sleeveless dress to show off my tattoos, but ended up finding a long sleeve one instead. My tattoos show through the material of the sleeves, and I absolutely love the way it looks! Surprisingly, so did my mom (who hates tattoos).

That’s exactly how I feel! I didn’t want to rule out long sleeved dresses entirely without trying them on because it might surprise me and it could be the one that I love the most! I think all 3 gowns are beautiful and so unique, so I’m excited to try them on! ☺️

What do you think of this dress? I was obsessed with this dress. Sadly I couldn't pull it off. I can tell you more about it if you like it!

I tried on the Adrianna Papell 31107. It was one of my favorites, I loved the illusion back and sleeves even though I didn't think I wanted illusion sleeves because they're trendy. I ended up not picking this one in part because it was more than I wanted to spend (maybe $1500?).

One thing to keep in mind is that illusion sleeves, while very beautiful, are also rather scratchy.
