Back of dress doesn’t look as advertised?

C, on July 30, 2020 at 11:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24
Hi everyone, I picked up my dress a month or so ago and was in love in the store, but after looking at pictures I think the back of the dress doesn’t look as advertised? The first two photos are from the designer’s Instagram (first is a model, second is a real bride). The third is what I received. Do these look very different or is it only me?Back of dress doesn’t look as advertised? 1

What doesn't look right? They look the same to me, I think it's just how it rests on each person.

It’s the lace on the top of the back - I feel like theirs tapers down a bit more whereas mine is just a straight line down

They look exactly the same to me, Lol. It's a beautiful dress; I love the X stitching on the sides!

I think it's just different body shapes and the way it lays. It looks beautiful and just fine.

I think the only thing that looks different to me is that the edges seem to be more straight lined rather than a slightly curvy lace, but I wouldn't have noticed without looking closely between the two. I think it looks beautiful!

I think the back is the same. It looks like the real bride had her straps altered, which makes the back rest higher and maybe had a little lace added to the back. If you want that more scalloped edge, ask your seamstress to add a little to your dress when you do alterations.

I saw that too, but I think that might even be due to the camera angle, since her picture is taken from eye level, and the others are taken from lower than that. I think it looks great though, and even if there is a slight difference, I'm sure it'll look amazing in pictures that are taken in better lighting!

I noticed this too. Most model pictures are photoshopped and nothing ever looks the same on a real person. I wouldn't worry about it since no one will know what the advertisement looks like. All they will see is a beautiful dress on you.

I think the "real bride" perhaps had a hook and eye which brings that top part together to provide a more curved back. That just brings it in just a little bit more.

I agree, after I submitted my comment earlier, I wondered if it was the camera angle that made it look that way. In any case, I think it's really pretty as-is!

I think the 2nd photo, with the bride, may have to do with alterations - she appears to have a shorter torso. The 1st pic (ad) and your pic look the same to me.

It is a stunning dress. Smiley heart

A fabric would have to be stretched out pretty hard to turn a scalloped edge into a straight line regardless of the camera angle since that isn't going to make a difference. No matter what angle you have, curved and straight never look that similar.

It's possible that the dress was cut out differently and no one caught it, which happens more than people think. But no one except you would notice it. It's beautiful either way and I wouldn't return it on that basis.

The bride in the 2nd photo definitely has a shorter torso, so that could make a difference! It could also be the angle she's standing at in this picture! 🤷

It's a really beautiful dress - I love all the delicate detailing!!

The first dresses have a scalloped lace edge. Yours has a sparkle round edge. They are different, but I still think yours is beautiful. It's also extremely common for designers to make tweaks in their designs between their ad campaign (which comes out 6 months-1 year before the "season") and production (when they're actually making YOUR dress). It could be that they weren't able to source the exact same lace, or it was less expensive and less of a waste of fabric to use it all instead of just that edge. Either way I think it looks great on you. If it really bothers you, you can call them on it. When my dress came in, it was quite different from what I tried on in store/ad campaign. They had made it much more of a mermaid silhouette. They redid the dress for me and I was so happy I said something. It was a much bigger difference, though.

I actually had to scroll back and forth a number of times between the photos to really see any difference, because it’s like 99.9% undetectable🙃 Since I can’t zoom from my app, I can slightly see that the models dress has a little bit of a scalloping at the top with the lease Since I can’t zoom from my app, I can slightly see that the models dress has a little bit of a scalloping at the top with the lease. But that took some serious scrutinizing that the average person wouldn’t notice. so hopefully you’re not concerned about it.
