Back Fat in Dress

Liz, on October 13, 2019 at 10:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
Hi brides! Does anyone else have the little issue of some back fat/skin overhang in their dress? I don’t have a ton of it but it was enough for me to notice! I asked my seamstress if that was because the dress was too tight and she said if she loosens it, my dress probably won’t stay up properly. I’m two weeks out from my wedding so more Alterations really aren’t an option. Any advice? Thanks!

Thank you Marcia!! I’m probably being overly critical of how it looks lol. My seamstress just told me to try stuffing excess skin down the dress so I’ll probably just do that

I’m sure it seems worse to you because you look absolutely beautiful in your gown. If you pat close attention to some actresses in strapless gowns you’ll see evidence that skin gets pushed up a bit. Are you wearing a bustier? See if your seamstress can cut down the back a bit but leave the dress the way it is. That’s what I did and it worked wonders. I really don’t think you need it though. Your dress is magnificent!

Thanks Kristin! It has a built in bustier so I think that’s kind of pushing skin up a bit! I wish I had thought to have her cut it, I already brought the dress home and I get married in 13 days so I think I’ll just have to diy this one haha

I agree you look beautiful in the dress as it is. If you're wearing your hair down in the back and/or wearing a veil, what you're concerned about will be even less noticeable (and it's barely noticeable now). I've read several times on this forum, that when you put the dress on, have whoever is helping you/zipping it, run their hand between the inside of the dress and the skin on your back to help smooth it down and out. Also, if when you're putting the dress on, try leaning forward at the waist and put the bodice on from below the front of your chest, gravity will help "pull" everything toward the front of your body. (That's the way, as a 36D I put a bra on; it helps get everything where it's supposed to be.) Smiley winking Smiley heart Good luck!

Thank you!! That’s a good idea! I hadn’t thought of leaning forward! I also feel like maybe the dress was pulled up higher than it normally would be because they had an awful time getting it zipped and normally it’s easier (haven’t gained weight either!) thanks for the ideas!

Thanks Ruby! It’s a Pronovias dress actually! It’s supposed to have a big bow on the back but I just wasn’t wearing it for this photo. I’m sure your dress is stunning!!

There isn’t much you can do in 2 weeks to workout and get your back toned up. But it looks fine.

That dress looks gorgeous on you. If you would have not said anything about it I wouldn’t had even noticed it. I actually had to stare for quite a bit to even notice what you were talking about. I think that’s just a normal thing strapless dresses do. If you look at even the tiniest famous figure you’ll notice even when they wear strapless they get a little bit of that. No one will notice that on the big day and don’t sweat the small stuff! Happy soon to be wedding day!

Your dress is beautiful! I had the same problem and the seamstress just stuck her fingers in the back of the dress and smoothed it out. It made a huge difference which was surprising to me lol! Congrats!

The dress looks great on you!!! I was in the same boat as you with the back fat. I let my hair down and it’s not something you really notice.

Your dress is gorgeous on you. Have your mom or MOH just out their hands down and smooth it out after you get your dress on.
