Babysitting overnight

2018, on October 11, 2016 at 12:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I know this isnt a wedding question but i figured you guys would give me a reasonable answer. Ive been asked to babysit overnight and until noon the next day. Ive never done this so i was wondering how much do i charge for this. I know the family because i used to nanny the children. But ive never stayed over night. It will only be one child im watching and she is 12.

How much you normally charge per hour. I've baby sat over night and I ask more for that. Like

I used to get $60 for overnights too, but this was late 80s and early 90s and the child was a toddler.

What do you charge hourly? I would probably come up with a number based on full rate for awake hours and much less during sleep.

I would just charge your hourly rate for the full time (no discount for sleeping hours). Sure, you're not watching the child while you're sleeping, but the inconvenience of staying overnight warrants the fee, IMO.

I personally hate having to babysit my cousins overnight because I don't get to sleep in my own bed and I'm picky about that...but I also get paid in beer, so that makes it somewhat better lol.

I babysit overnight sometimes and doing it again this weekend. The parents and I decided on my full rate during "awake hours" and half of the rate while they are sleeping. Not looking forward to it this weekend since it's the entire weekend with 2 overnights in a row :/ Plus their house is creepy and I can never sleep well lol Good luck with yours though!

I nanny full time and have been asked to work late nights (no overnights yet but several until 1 or 2 am) while the parents are out. They alway pay me my regular rate for the entire time. I think most people understand that you are giving up your personal time and possibly turned down another job to be there with their children so they are ok with paying accordingly. You could offer a lower rate for the hours she is sleeping. But also keep in mind that because of her age, she may be allowed to stay up later than you are expecting and may wake up early. There is also the chance that she will wake up in the middle of the night needing something. I've had to put kids back to sleep several times because of nightmares, feeling sick, etc. I would ask for the regular rate and see what the parents say.

It's been about 7 years, but I used to get $65 for over night stays watching one 11 year old girl.

I have babysat for weekends and overnights. I usually got about $100 for late afternoon to mid-morning. My hourly rate was $8, so that works out about to half time for overnight hours. They just asked me if $100 was enough and it sounded good to me lol.

When I was a nanny for a family, I was paid $200 for overnight stays. It was awesome. The boys were on a very strict bedtime and were in bed with stories read by 8 pm.
