Baby's Breath Centerpieces

Michelle, on October 21, 2015 at 2:30 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 29

Is it just me, or does this look so easy? I'm shopping for a florist, but now I'm wondering if I can pull this off myself. My wedding planner made a small comment about baby's breath being a little tacky, but she's seen it done well too...howeverI think this looks gorgeous. Am I crazy to think this is possible to make myself? Its also a destination wedding so I have no idea how I'll get it out there. Shipping might cost more than a florist

I'm planning on doing Baby's Breath, but not in such tall vases. Is your DW within the US? You could just order it to wherever you will be. If it's outside, I'm not sure how it would work, but you could find some local place.

Its in New Orleans. I can't imagine this would be that expensive from a florist anyways.

We ordered two boxes of babys breath from Costco, I think they were like $80 or $90 a box. It was way more than enough for our 35 centerpieces like this. Then our florist just did our bouquets and bouts.

ETA- We're members of Costco, but I think someone said you can still order from them even if you're not a member, it's just like an extra $10. Also, you pick the delivery date. We had them delivered the day before, they arrived at DH's parent's house at 10 AM in perfect condition.

My friend had baby's breath for her bouquet and all of her centerpieces. It was actually a mutual florist friend who put it together, and it looked really great!

I imagine that it might be harder to do it like the top picture, where it's perfect rounded shape at the top, but the ones in Trisha's picture look fairly simple, and pretty!

I love baby's breath and I don't think it's tacky at all. Like the girls above try Costco, sams club. I'm currently looking at doing my own hydrangea bouquets for the bridesmaids.

I don't know how you would make DIY flowers work for a destination wedding, to be honest. If you were getting married locally, I'd say go to Costco. But even locally it's hard because you need a place to refrigerate and store the flowers for a couple of days before the wedding. Not sure what the deal is with baby's breath in terms of storage/refrigeration, but I imagine that transporting them may be far more trouble than it's worth. Have you tried showing this photo to florists in your wedding area to get some price quotes?

There is absolutely NOTHING tacky about babys breath. It's simple, elegant, and classy. It can be dressed up or dressed down.

You buy the white plastic bridal bouquet holders with floral foam in it from the craft store. Cut small pieces of BB and stick it it and get it as full as you want. Then just place the bouquet in the vase. It takes about 45 minutes to do one. My MIL and 2 SIL's helped and we did 10 in 2.5 hours.

I'm a fan of babies breath. Using them in blue bottles for my cocktail hr tables at my beach destination wedding. Also plan to have a little in my hair (I'll be extra tacky I guess). I agree with others u will have to ship to ur hotel or something and store them. Babies breath won't be too much money I'd just ask some local florist for quotes. I at first wanted to do my own from Sam's club (roses and bouquets, etc.) but I realized it would be way too much work/ stress and I'd rather pay a florist to ease my mind

Many stems are in that original pic I posted. Just trying to figure out how much that should cost. Any florists in the thread? Lol

I love baby's breath, we're actually going to put some in mason jars for our centerpieces. We are ordering some from a florist, but will be arranging it ourselves. It's not tacky at all Smiley smile

Here's what we did with our baby's breath. Are you getting married out of the country?

All of these DIY projects with baby's breath look great. A poster made a very good point tho. No way I can DIY with a destination wedding. I'm just going to have to find a florist that can mimic well Smiley smile

Totally doable! i was going to do that look using gold candle sticks! My florist did mention that there are two types of babysbreath and one is fuller than the other and will look better balled up like that. i wish i remember the names. one was like star babybreath and i think it was the other that you should use.

If it is a destination, do you know when you will arrive? I am ordering from BJs online bulk flower shop (Same deal as others have mentioned above about Costco). It will be delivered to my house 2 days before hand. A friend of mine is now doing the same thing for her FL destination wedding. They will be in FL 3 days before her wedding so she is having the flowers delivered to where she is staying. BJs prices are $79.99 per 100 stems of Babys breath. Hope this helps!!

Does Babys Breath not smell bad?? I was going to use them in my centerpieces but decided against it because I was told they smell bad.

    It smells horrible.

Personally, I don't like it. It's like this generation's carnation.
