Baby's Breath and Flowers

PNK, on July 27, 2016 at 10:32 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

So in planning our ceremony and reception, I never wanted a lot of flowers. I think they're beautiful but in the grand scheme of things it's not where I want to blow a large portion of our budget. With that said, I planned to do tall centerpieces at the reception with baby's breath. Not on all the tables but spread out enough to add a little extra wow. The florist I'm working with quoted me a price of $125 each for the baby's breath arrangements. Is this reasonable? Has anyone attempted to do baby's breath centerpieces on their own? Was it easy? Was it cheaper? Just trying to determine what makes the most sense.

From what I understand about baby's breath is that it's cheap, but it takes a lot of it to fill up big vases, etc. And with a professional florist, keep in mind that you're also paying for their time, experience, and set-up.

As far as DIY - Here's a good post that might help you!

We had baby's breath, Wheat steams, and something else that I have no idea what it was called. Loved it! Our price was around that range.

Seems on the high end to me for baby's breath but not unreasonable.

Is it possible to provide your own vases for the centerpieces? We aren't doing baby's breath centerpieces, but our floral vendor is allowing us to bring in our own vases and that cut the cost by a good chunk. Also, like JillR mentioned, you're still paying for their time, experience, etc.

I guess it depends on how full you are wanting the center pieces. My florist quoted me $15 for a large bundle of baby's breath. I showed her a picture of what I wanted (very simple, not very full) and she said I would only need two bundles for 10 tables.

Definitely check out the posted @JillR posted - it's so helpful! Could you think about your doing your own centerpieces if they will just be baby's breath? I never recommend for people to take on extra projects for the wedding weekend, but this might be fairly easy!

The price I quoted is without the $10 fee for vases because I know my planner can provide them. I only want baby's breath centerpieces for around 6 of the tables. I'm going to alternate with candles as well. I consider asking my planner if she would do it (she already offered). I just didn't know whether $125 would be what I was paying anyway if I purchased the baby's breath on my own. After looking at the thread JillR posted, maybe the price isn't so far off.

I did all my centerpieces in babys breath. I bought it in bulk online from Sam's Club. I only had about ten tables to do so I had plenty with one order of 6 bunches! I even had enough to do some extra vases for the ceremony site. It was pretty easy to DIY with babys breath. And I spent under $80 for the amount I bought. Beautiful. Make sure you have a friend to help and plenty of time the night before or morning of to do it though...took awhile.

I don't have any advice on the pricing, but just a PSA, if you're doing tall centerpieces make sure they're at a good height that people can still see/speak to each other across the table. I went to a wedding where the centerpieces were exactly at eye level and people were moving them to the edge of the table / on the floor so they could actually see the rest of their table-mates.

Seems pricey for baby breaths. I have low arrangements of expensive flowers that are quoted at 125 a table. If more than 10 tables then this is quite expensive .

Tall centerpieces are more expensive! I was quoted at $200 per tall centerpiece while low centerpiece was $45-$65 for the same flowers, the florist said tall ones are fuller...? (3 times as much is what I was told).
