Babies "seated" at the tables?

Annie Adams, on August 13, 2012 at 3:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Just curious what other people have done..

We are going to have a handful (4 and counting!) of babies at the wedding and we're going to rent high chairs for them.

Just wondering if those high chairs should be counted as "seated' on the seating chart. If I leave them off would it mean a lot less elbow room at the table? BUt then again, wouldnt the table be a little too empty with high chairs counting as regular adult seats?

Random, I know, and most likely not that important. But I was excited to find that our rental place has high chairs. Now I have no idea what to do with them!

I would count them as a seat. The parents will need to pull the chair up to the table. It can't sit away from the table. It would be in the walkways and in the way of your servers.

Yea I knew that. I was more wondering if they should count as a full seat when doing the SEATING CHART.

I would still count them as a full seat. The legs on those high chairs are Wide.

They won't be taking up elbow room and plate space, but their chair will be as wide as a normal chair.

However, if that table has a lot of women or kids at the table, you could squeeze the maximum number of people to that table and not worry about elbow room.

A 48 inch table will seat 6 people, while a 54 inch table can accommodate 6 to 8 people. A 60 inch and 72 inch table will seat 10 to 12 people.

    Does that help some?

We only had 1 highchair and I counted it as a full seat. The actual highchair was wider than a regular chair. If we had tried to squeeze in the max number of adults who can sit at that size table PLUS the high chair, it wouldn't have fit.

ETA, I would ask the parents if they want a highchair. Some families might not, or they might want a regular chair for the carseat. We had one other baby at the wedding and they didn't want a separate place for her at all. She was 4 mos old and it was her first big family event, they just passed her around the table and took turns holding her during dinner. I offered the highchair, but that's what they wanted, so fine by me. If I'd rented it, it would have gone unused, so I'm glad I asked.

Thanks Krisalicious, I will definitly ask first. (One of my friends is having twins RIGHT before the wedding, so we are already planning on asking parents first before we spend the money.)

And Hayley, that was exactly what I needed to hear! Thanks!
