Awkward Conversations & Lost Deposits

Fleur, on February 6, 2020 at 10:04 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

Just a random thought for you guys, since no one in my normal, everyday life can relate.... Has anyone else experienced awkward converstaions during the wedding process??? I've changed my mind on both my DJ & my Venue over the last few months. In both cases the phone conversations terminating the contracts were sooo awkward! In the process I’ve lost deposits of $1,900 which makes me feel SO.DUMB – but at the end of the day.... I love my NEW vendors soooo much more that I’ve gotten over it!

Ive had it with my friend who was my video and photographer. I felt awkward constantly asking her where the product was mostly because she did it pro Bono but man it took a long time
But I felt awkward even asking since it wasss pro Bono

Yes, I made the mistake of emailing way too many people for each vendor and once we finally picked one I had already been emailing all these people for weeks. They would call and email to move forward to try and book and it was really awkward to tell them no. I didn’t want to just ghost them, but telling people no over the phone it the worst! I couldn’t imagine having to do after already booking them. It’s all for the better now right!

I know what you mean! I had a potential caterer tell me hes open on my date, but has zero staff now and doesnt know if he'll have any staff then. I smell a high turnover rate and bad management. Yikes. The company has a good food reputation tho, which is a big bummer.

Also really confused about my venu bc we said a month ago we're good for contracts, they said theyd mail it, I just emailed last night reminding them we want to rent their space. Probably gonna call them after I post my reply tbh

If you have a bad feeling, leave. Lol the only awkwardness I've had is talking on the phone with my photographer. I'm just awkward period. Lol but one of my bridesmaids had an issue with a venue for my wedding shower. The day we went to view it, the owner said she's thinking about selling it, but hasn't made up her mind. And that we could still book it and put a deposit down but she still might sell it. Um no! We don't want to plan a shower then having to find a new venue in a short time. Crazy

Yep we did this with photo and video. Photo just because we were not happy with our engagement photos (about a half a dozen were beautiful, but the rest were really honestly just bad) and video the company just ended up seeming shady (didn’t return calls or emails for like 2 months....)

Luckily we only lost like $100 on the photography deposit and $150 on video. Was such a relief though to be done with vendors who we didn’t feel would do the best work.

That's happened to me a couple times. The conversations were never really awkward but losing those deposits definitely hit us! Did it with our first location and then had to do it with my dream venue. That one hurt the most. Now, we've just made deposits on our new venues. Not what I wanted but they're both very beautiful.
