What is an average budget for florals? What are must haves? What can be cut?

You're going to get wildly different answers here, because it depends on how many florals you get. We spent $6000 on a mid-range florist, but this included a whole bunch of stuff, including a giant chuppah, floral centerpieces on every table, etc.

I would say that the only floral "must have" is the bridal bouquet because your bouquet will be in all of your formal photos. If budget is an issue, then I'd still make sure to go all out on YOUR bouquet and cut corners with the rest. Many brides on this forum have had success with fake flowers as well, if you'd want to go that route (although I'd still say that should be for everything else except your own bouquet).

I agree with PP that the bouquets are most important and probably best to be professionally done. Prices also depend on where you live. For my daughter's wedding, the florist did 3 bouquets, 7 boutennaires, and 8 corsages for $900. We then DIY with aisle flowers and 15 table centerpieces, dessert/bar areas using Fifty flowers.com (they also have Ready Made centerpieces, corsages, and boutennaires) and saved over $1000 verses the quote the florist gave for all of that. Costco also has wedding flower packages.

Budget varies from couple to couple. Prices that vendors charge depends on your location (big city vs small town). Nearly always, you will find that fresh flowers, including from fiftyflowers.com are much cheaper than silks/wood flowers.

The brst thing to do is decide what you want, what you can spend and get price quotes in your area.

I was also wondering this. I talked to a florist for the first time this week and was quoted just under $3500 which IS pricey, however I thought it might be fair for what was included (all bouquets and boutonnières and corsages, garland centerpieces, chandelier florals, and others) not to mention these would be REAL flowers. Although I think it might be a fair price but I'm still looking around for something more in my budget which is about $1000 less.

My wedding style is more on the garden side though, so I was expecting to spend quite a bit on florals Smiley smile what you spend will also depend on what style your wedding will be.

Agreed that you'll get wildly different answers depending on your location, budget, and even wedding party (e.g. number of bouquets, etc.) and guest list (e.g. number of tables for centerpieces). I wanted fresh florals but didn't want to pay thousands, so I hired a professional florist for my bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages since they're more complicated to DIY (I'd be too critical of my own attempt) and they'll be in more pictures. I'm planning on ordering various flowers and greenery from FiftyFlowers.com and arranging my own bud vases as centerpieces, along with fresh greenery garlands from Costco.

There are too many variables to give you 'average' pricing. It depends on your choice of florals, your flexibility with substitutions, if you want any 'premium' flowers included, the type of arrangements you want, if you need to hire any items, etc.

Something to keep in mind is that florists will charge you a delivery fee as well as a fee for setting up and packing down the wedding.

My best advice to you if you're on a budget, identify what you want and what substitutions you can make to keep costs low (i.e. in place of peonies go for ranunculus) and also shop around. I live within 5kms of our central business district and the florist I chose (25kms from the CBD) came in well over $1,000 cheaper than the florists I spoke to nearby because her rent was less and she could more competitively price.

Oh, ya! Our florist was going to charge $200 to deliver the 3 bouquets, boutennaires, and corsages (venue was less than 1/2 mile from florist) so I had a family member pick up the arrangements and bought vases at the dollar store to keep the bouquets in.

I’m getting my bridal bouquet, 2 bridesmaid bouquet, 5 boutonnières, and 3 corsages and the total was $475 before tax and delivery fee. After tax and delivery fee my total is a little over $600. Thankfully my venue is decorating my reception for me with greenery and candles so I didn’t have to spend any other money for decorating. But flowers can gets expensive especially if your venue is a blank space. I think bouquets are a must and probably boutonnières too but you can skip on center pieces and maybe do candles? Really up to you and how much you’re willingly to spend on flowers. My mindset since the beginning was not to spend more than $500 on flowers. I went a little over after tax and delivery fee.

If you go up to "Planning Tools", above, and look at the "Cost Guide", you will find a tool that helps you find the average for your area.

We decided that fresh flowers were ridiculously expensive for our area, particularly given that my father is allergic to ... pretty much everything.

So, we did Budget Bride fake flowers, and got everything for less than $500.

    They looked great.

So my floral budget is a little on the cheaper side because we are using the florist recommended by our venue and she does the centerpieces there, so she offered us a discount. We are paying just under $900 for my bouquet, 5 bridesmaids bouquets, 8 boutonnières, 3 corsages for the mothers and best woman, ceremony decor for the aisle and the gazebo, a floral piece for the mantle of the fireplace we will be sitting in front of at the reception, and our centerpieces. So it really depends on who you use, what you're looking for, etc. because we got a great deal with her since she does so much work with our venue.

Like everyone has mentioned, this varies greatly. It all depends on what your budget is, what all you want done, what area you're in, and can even depend on how readily available the flowers are that you want. You can either DIY your flowers which a lot of brides on here have done and posted about! It's very cost efficient too!

Our flowers are going to cost us $955. I told our florist my max budget was $1k, and told her what all we were thinking of having done. She worked with us on getting the price down, helped us eliminate unnecessary things, and what flowers were the best to keep us under budget but still look beautiful! I also decided to go with our florist because she's just starting out in the wedding industry so her prices aren't as high as other florists that have been doing this for years.

    Things that can be cut:
-floral arches if you want framing pedestals but both can be moved, if at the same location, to the reception.
-flowers in different rooms you're not using that much (like a second mantle)-flowers on a staircase-how many floral arrangements you have in the aisle-extra stuff like floral chandeliers
I'm probably going to spend $3,500-3,600 in Philadelphia with 2 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen. Not as many flowers as I would like but with roses. No giant arrangements, arch, or too many extras. I think 3,000 was the minimal price for many places in that area
