Was hoping I could get some feedback on what everyone is spending on DJ- All of the quotes I am getting back are over $900- $1200 that's more then $200/hr for most. I'm thinking that's a bit high for 5 hrs.

I was really lucky to find a DJ Entertainment Company based in New York called Rebell Entertainment. I was quoted a price for $1200 for 5 hrs with lights and more. they came highly recommended by a friend who used them for her wedding and she said she was very happy the service and kept getting compliments from her guest for the entertainment. The company website is djrebell.com check them out and see what they can do for you.

As a wedding dj I can tell you that the price of maintaining a website, marketing, extreme cost of equipment, like each of my speakers is $900 not including the $1,400 subwoofer that we have to maintain and have backups of. A good professional wedding DJ will arrive to your venue with at least $10,000 worth of equipment. In order to be competitive we have to advertise on these pricey wedding website. Your typical wedding is 6 hours, that includes 2 hours for setup and one hour for tear down plus the price of travel and other preparations for each and every event. A typical day for a wedding DJ is 12 - 14 hours. The wedding DJ is one of the most important people that you will hire. You do not have a party without somebody that can provide the music as well as know how to handle a wedding professionally and maintain the flow of the night. Anybody can play music but it takes a professional DJ to read a crowd and put together music in an effective way that will keep your party going all night long.

The greatest piece of advice I can give you is, on your one year anniversary nobody will remember what color flowers you had. But they will remember whether or not your DJ rocked the house and made them dance all night long.

Because when you think of it, nothing can happen until the DJ makes it happen. So when you hire whoever you hire as your DJ make sure it's somebody that you can imagine yourself being friends with because only a friend should be given that much control of the most important day of your life
