Average Cost per Guest vs Your Cost per Guest

Jennifer, on September 29, 2017 at 2:07 PM Posted in Planning 1 20

I stumbled across this article

https://www.valuepenguin.com/average-cost-of-wedding

and while I am sure this could be wrong, I was curious to see how accurate it was in comparison to your wedding.

For example, in CT, it says the average cost per guest is 314$. My (current) cost per guest is $225 (45k budget and 200 guests) , so I feel a bit better, as lately I feel like we have been spending too much!

WDYT? Accurate? High? Low?

This seems super off to me. I looked all over SJ and not one of the venues I looked at even came close to 300$ per guest.

It also says the average wedding in my area is 40K and all the other estimators have had it at between 25-30K.

I don't think this is accurate at all

There is a lot of these budget threads going around lately.

But we are about $100 less than the listed average, that's including the total wedding budget not just Food&Bev

I could totally see a Philadelphia wedding going for $288 a head. We worked really hard to cut our budget down to make ours around $100pp. Our vow renewal will probably be closer to $250pp.

I also am realizing that this article grouping it by state can be misleading because here in CT we have huge COL discrepancy. We have some of the poorest cities, and some of the richest cities. For example, from my hometown to where I live now, the cost per guest could vary upwards of 30$pp, which is a lot when you have 200 people!

Are people reporting their per person cost as food+beverage or taking their whole wedding cost and dividing it by number of guests?

I'm not sure how much per guest all together since we haven't booked everything yet but our venue/catering with open bar alone is about $83 pp which includes tax and everything.

When you take your total cost of wedding divided by your guest count that is how they are arriving the total cost per guest

We live in upstate NY, our per person cost $30, open bar, buffet-it's not an upscale venue, but it's nice and the food is delicious. Average for my area-$195.

    Edit: needed the average price!

Whoa! For my area it says the average is $342 which according to my calculations would be about $15000 more than what were actually spending.

It says $199 for the Chicago suburbs. I am going to come in around $175/person all in excluding honeymoon for a pretty simple wedding (using the setting to eliminate decoration cost, no wedding party, etc).

I would hate to imagine how much it would be per person if I wasn't nearly as simple.
