Average cost of a DJ?

So I've been looking for DJs for our wedding in June. I have had quotes all the way from $350-$1300 for five hours. Seems like quite a span. What all have you been quoted?

@c_h_a_r: Where in Manitoba are you? We had our social in Miami, MB and hired a DJ from Carman (or Morden?) and they charged us CAD$450. In Winnipeg our wedding DJ was CAD$500, though he didn't have to work during the ceremony, only the reception.

Professional DJs range between **** dollars. These are the folks that have put in both the investment in equipment, education, and experience that will be best suited to handle whatever a wedding throws at them.

When you get into the 1000 and under range, you're experiencing someone who is just breaking into the business because they thought one day, "Hey, that looks like an easy way to make a couple hundred."

That being said, with that attitude, how vested in your wedding do you think they will be? To them, it's an afterthought. Beer money.

Mine is 1450 for ceremony music, cocktail hour music, and 5 hours of dancing/MCing. That includes a Gobo lighting thing for our dance floor too.

$940 ( 400 dollar off promo) is getting me unlimited time the day of my wedding. They will show up an hour before the ceremony, take care of the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner hour, and reception. I thought it was high, but I'm glad I chose them!!

We got it as part of a package (we're getting photo and video through them as well) but I believe the DJ part alone (comes with an assistant or two) and it's $1,800ish for us and without the bundle or discounts we got they're $2,600. This is for a wedding in Milton, NY but the company is from Albany, NY. Others in the area quoted me about $2,500 for DJ alone.

See if you can find bundled packages or see if you can remove certain things (perhaps monogrammed lights is one we cut) from the already created packages. Don't be afraid to ask for a discount. We did and benefited big time. Eta: Ours includes ceremony, reception, cocktail hour which also involves games to get the guests interactive while they wait for us.

A lot of time and effort go into djn a wedding. Hours spent in preparation for gathering the songs with the best quality and matching volume levels. Putting the playlist together f to create the perfect flow of the night. Essentially we are creating the soundtrack for your magical night. A lot of Hours go into prep before the wedding, setup/ breakdown at the wedding that aren't even considered with the costs

Of hiring a Dj. For those who do it for a paycheck will charge low 450-800, you get what you pay for. Djs will just play one song after the other without thinking of how it will sound right after each other. Djs who charge at least 1000 will provide more thought and effort into your music for the night. Lighting and MCing will be additional costs. Just thought I would share on behalf of the Djs that do this professionally and out of passion. I've been Djn for 10 years now and have done over 30 weddings. I've charged from ****. Depending on the size of wedding, equipment needed, lighting and MCng. I like to meet with my clients at least twice before the wedding to meet and go over how they want the night to be and feel. I do this for a passion and love being part of making it a memorable night. Spreads love through sound!

Don't you wish DJs had their pricing posted on their website, or a Instant Quote thing like Expedia on their website so you can figure out their pricing BEFORE you call? Jeez!
